Re: DIY: Upgrading the Hyundai Verna's Head-Unit (Sony XAV-AX5000)

Congrats for integrating new HU to your Verna.

From the wiring pin out diagram, I can see that there no CANH and CANL connections. It can be useful in cases where vehicle speed from the car goes to HU and the car volume increases when the vehicle speed also increases and then decreases when you are your speed drops.

There is a "speed sensor signal" wire on pin B16 in the original wiring diagrams. Since the Sony Unit doesn't offer that feature, I omitted it in my wiring diagrams as well.

Its a nice feature to have though, but not a deal breaker of any sort. Cheers!

I inspired from your thread and completed the DIY of installing XAV 3000 on Good Friday i.e. 19.04.19 with the help of Anurag(a4anurag) & Shoeb on my Grand I10.
I would like to thank them on this forum for their support.
Your thread was extremely helpful with all the details. Thanks a ton.
I have gone for XAV3000 instead of XAV5000 as the difference was only with option of provision for reverse parking camera. I have not felt the need of it for my small car. But on receipt of product, I found that XAV 3000 also has the feature. So I save it for the next DIY.
I want to sell off the OEM head unit now. At what price can I sell it off?

Nice pics and thread. Can you post a picture of the two USB slots? I don't see them on the unit.

The USB ports are two wires marked “USB1” and “USB2”.

I have integrated USB1 into my OEM USB Port. USB2 cable lies in the glovebox and is not used.

Don’t have a picture of the back of the unit. So here’s one from google:-

Thats awesome. The difference b/w the 5000 and 3000 models is that the 5000 model has a capacitive touchscreen. Both have provisions for backup cameras. I was in touch with Anurag while you were doing your audio upgrade

Selling the OEM unit is a pain, you'll hardly find any takers for it. I have retained mine. Will swap it back (if and) when I'm selling the car.

Now the only way to get the factory bluetooth mic working with this aftermarket heading was to figure out which pins control this function in the factory harness. The wiring diagrams mentioned the pins needed and all I did was to hack up an old microphone/aux cable, use a multimeter to figure out which is GND and which is +ve and voila we have the wiring for the bluetooth mic ready and integrated into the harness.

Using a multimeter, I could figure out that the Black wire is the ground and the Red & Yellow wires are positive wires.

Final wire with the pins they are supposed to go into
I am in the same boat here w.r.t to retaining the OEM Bluetooth Microphone but in my case the car is the Honda City.

I just posted the following question on the Honda City Official Thread : URL

Any tips on how I can figure the Bluetooth Mic Part connectors for the Honda City so I can retain the OEM Mic?

So, this completes my DIY along with a small review of the headunit itself. Please feel free to fire away whatever questions you may have about this install.
Hello drhoneycake,

Do you updated your unit to latest firmware version?. Sony has release latest firmware version 1.02 so I am trying to update my unit from v1.0 to v1.02. Followed all the steps mention at Sony's update web page https://www.sony.co.in/electronics/s...loads/00015828, but facing issue while updating and getting error message: 'please visit the support site and connect the usb device(with update firmware) to USB1 port'.
I am sure USB1 is definitely connected because I can play music from it. Still in my case somehow firmware update files doesn't getting recognized.

Re: DIY: Upgrading the Hyundai Verna's Head-Unit (Sony XAV-AX5000)

Hello Drhoney,

Wonderful thread. Thanks for sharing.

I have a query. When your phone is connected to the HU through usb for car play, how fast does the phone get charged? Couldn't find this inf,o, and I feel that over long drives, where the phone would be continuously connected to the hu for Android auto/ car play functionality, the charging speed/ rate would matter.

Also, how is the touch response? Any laga/ jitters?

Regards.

Re: DIY: Upgrading the Hyundai Verna's Head-Unit (Sony XAV-AX5000)

This is a fantastic thread. was very helpful in upgrading my Fluidic Verna OE HU to Sony XAV AX 5000. Till now I was using the OE HU along with Focal Auditor components in the front, hertz Co-axial in the rear door and JBL 1200W sub all driven by Blaupunkt EMA 455 600W 4 Ch amp.

Inputs Provided by @drhoneycake was helpful and sourcing the harness and the mounting frame. A local installer did a fantastic job in sourcing the harness, which even retained the OE USB port.

Damped front two doors with DrArtex iridium 2.0mm butyl sheets. Front components and sub is being driven by the amp. Rear door speakers are connected directly by the HU. Sound Quality is superb.DIY: Upgrading the Hyundai Verna's Head-Unit (Sony XAV-AX5000)-img_0606.jpg

Hey guys, how is the HU working for you guys?
Any issues or niggles? Some reviews on Amazon mentioned that Android auto hangs and is laggy.

Your thoughts?

Re: DIY: Upgrading the Hyundai Verna's Head-Unit (Sony XAV-AX5000)

Hi All,

I read through this thread and got inspired to install the Sony XAV- AX3000 in my Hyundai Fluidic Verna.

I have a few niggles/doubts:
1. The screen does not look solid, it feels like there is a loose plastic layer on the surface of the screen. Feels like a loose screen guard.
2. Android Auto keeps on losing connection and reconnects
3. Sometimes the system freezes
4. Is there a way to change the wallpaper??

I actually went back to the installer to ask if he has given me a genuine product for which he said yes.

1. If the screen moves/goes in when pressed or you see rattles then there is an issue

2. Could be a cable issue or a phone issue. My Asus phone has issues with android auto no matter what cable.

3. Check for firmware update on sony website.

4. You can change the background color. No custom wallpaper possible
