Man, Head Units are CHEAP!

So, thought will spend the Sunday being nice to the Indigo and went to pick up a headunit for her. Keep in mind that the Indigo is 100% driver-driven so a basic headunit would suffice.

Butttttttttttttttttttt I got a Pioneer headunit with MP3, remote and all that jazz for only Rs. 4700! It sounds pretty decent and has a LOT more functionality thatn what I would expect in a 5 grand headunit. I dont know about you guys but I went headunit shopping after a long time since all my recent cars have either had factory stereos (C220) or have had them transferred from previous cars (Lancer to Vtec, Accord to Jeep).

I remember the days when we used to spend 10,000 upward for headunits that were half as equipped.

Competition, localisation, grey imports....are all a nice thing

Pioneer Head Units certainly are great value for money. You must have picked up the 3850. It's a good unit at that price. It has a subwoofer out too.

Lol, I wouldn't exactly say that, but it sure teaches a lesson to official importers that set stupid prices for their products.

Yeah, head units are really reasonable nowadays, and the Pios in the last year sound pretty good. Congrats.

whats the difference in buying a head unit with bill and without bill. I find this very confusing because, i checked out a sony 350s and the guy told me that its Rs 8900 (approx) with a bill and Rs 5000 (approx) without a bill.
Whats the catch?? AND is it safe to buy such HUs ??

Well, I got JBL speakers with pioneer HU for my friend on Saturday. The options were
1. Bill with warranty (price + VAT)
2. Equipment with warranty (no VAT)
3. Equipment without warranty (of course cheap).

Somewhere, something is really going wrong here. I guess.

OFFTOPIC: I would be skeptical about these pioneer hu's. Most of them are fake...
If I were to buy something without B&W, then lesser popular brands like JVC would be a better bet... they come at almost similar prices and more likelyhood of getting a genuine one...

Coming back to the topic: Prices of HUs have fallen, but somehow amps are still hovering around the same price...may be due to lower volumes in comparison....

I disagree, have bought over 10-12 pio HUs in past few years amongst my aquantances (includes me & my friends) almost 95% were gray & none of them ever had any problem

Felt nice reading the name of this thread! Hope to hear such things about amps and sub too :-)
>> kvish : How would you know if a HU is fake? what are the factors which makes you to identify (at shops) a fake HU - especially ones branded Pioneer?
I am *planning* to buy one and advice would be valuable!

Yeah, they are cheap without B&W. what is it with these resellers that they hate to sell products with bill. the moment you mention B&W, they are abrupt with their talk & quote unbelievable prices.

I recently saw an advert for a JVC head unit(mp3/wma etc.,). 5500 with bill and warranty(18 months).
Guess in grey it would cost around 3000, but 5500 for a good mp3 player is not really a bad deal
