Re: Which compact subwoofer should I buy?

Hi,

I am also considering this active sub - Blaupunkt Xlf 10A
But I noticed that this sealed-enclosure passive sub, MTX RTF10AS, is also priced similar.
Anyone has this and any feedback which would be better.

If the MTX sub is good, I can consider using the rear 2 channels of the existing 4-ch Pioneer amp to drive it. Any suggestions?

How is Zoook Monster 8-inch Active sub, compared to Blaupunkt 10A, by the way?

Re: Which compact subwoofer should I buy?

I have a Sony XS AW8 in my Indica and a blaupunkt XLF200A in my Etios, The blaupunkt hits a lot lower. The Sony bass feels artificial. As if it's a smaller driver with a lot of dsp added to make it sound deeper at low volumes. Given the price difference, I feel the blaupunkt is a better choice.

Ordered one of these in the current sale. Even though I have enough, couldn't resist buying one for a rainy day at this price. If you're sitting on the fence, considering prices, this might be what you need.
As a brand, I'm ok with them, I got a pair of their led bulbs 2 years ago and I'm very happy with them

PS: no commercial affiliation. Just wanted to share a good deal

Re: Which compact subwoofer should I buy?

My current setup is Pioneer 5290; JL Audio C1 Components at front and JL Audio C1 Co-axials at rear. None of them are powered by an amplifier.

I am now going to order with a good old friend's car accessories store:
JL Audio 10W1V3-4 (10 inch W1 series 3rd version 4 Ohm). Operating frequency range is 25 Hz to 250 Hz.
Price is still not known but I expect it between 15000 - 20000.

This installation will give me great opportunity to provide amplified power to the front components.

JL Audio's W1 series is best-selling subwoofer series in USA. Also they have W0 series at affordable prices. So following are the advantages with W1 series:

Optimized to operate in compact sealed enclosure 15.9 L vs 18.4 L.
Lacks a pole vent so the rear of the motor structure can be placed directly against an enclosure boundary with a gap of mere 0.5 inch.
Mounting Depth 4.6 inches Vs 4.9 inches.
Piston Displacement 48 cu in vs 44 cu in (8 inch W1 = 19.6; 12 inch W0 = 67; 12 inch W1 = 73; 15 inch W0 = 122)
SD 54 sq in Vs 49 sq in (8W1 = 33; 12W0 = 75; 12W1 = 82; 15 W0 = 122)
Xmax 11 mm (one way) Vs 11.4 mm (one way)
More technologies viz. Floating Cone Attach Method, Vented Reinforcement Collar, Insert Molded Suspension / Coil / Terminal Sub-Assembly in addition to Dynamic Motor Analysis Optimized Motor, Elevated Frame Cooling and Engineered Lead-Wire System.

In JL Audio's official online video, a user mentioned that 10W1 made highest SPL at 30 Hz and second highest at 25 Hz & 50 Hz (box size = 25 L)

These things helped me from going for their insanely priced TW3 series (Thin Line) shallow mount (3.25 inch) subwoofers which was costing 28000.

I expect I would be able to place it under front seat in my Dzire car.

Experts please guide whether I should go with this or there is another better subwoofer in market.

This is not an underseat sub like what we are discussing in this thread. This is a regular 10" sub, which will need a box at least 6" deep, if not more. I doubt it will fit under the average car seat. The Sony xs-aw8 for example is just over 3" deep and that's a snug fit. Plus you will need an amp which you will need to install elsewhere

True sir

Sir, I really wish to place one of the best sounding subwoofer inside cabin.

JL Audio 10 inch TW3 Series (Thin Line Series, shallow mount with 3.25 inch height) is quoting at 28000. I feel this is priced high. Should I go with this one?

Please guide me sir.

One, I'm not sure why you seem to be so obsessed with jl audio subs. If your concern is matching your main speakers, they are misplaced. Subs really don't have a tonality like regular speakers and matching is not as critical

Two , a shallow mount sub in a custom box and a seperate amp is still not going to be a substantial improvement over a typical underseat sub despite costing a lot more. Especially since there are plenty of quality options at all price points, 6k, 12k, 18k.

Three, no matter how much money you throw at it, limitations imposed by the laws of physics (there is no replacement for displacement) mean that the quality and quantity of bass cannot exceed certain limits which are far below a box sub.

If you want a full size sub and don't want to compromise on space, try a wheel well sub
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/car-e...heel-well.html (Sub woofers in the spare wheel well.)

Re: Which compact subwoofer should I buy?

After looking at some of the prices shared by you folks earlier, I feel I over-spent on this Harman Kardon Feel 700 under-seat sub for my VW Virtus. I got this for 34.5k Inaxes and some other brands didn't fit under the seat and hence I went with this unit that is very compact, dense and heavy.

While I'm happy with the sound, I don't have a reference point of the Blaupunkt or any of the other subs in the range of 10-15k that were shared here. Also seems this is a new model as there isnt much info online. The only interesting technical bit for me was that it's a Class D IC.

Initially thought I was taken for a ride with a fake product, but this was a reputed shop in Bangalore and I later saw this on the Harman Kardon India FB page:

Could you please share shop details in which you got installed it?
What was the overall cost of product and installation?
Will this affect the vehicle warranty in any way?

Thank you.

I got it installed from Sachin's Autoshop in Koramangala. Was referred by a friend. Price is in my previous post itself. Installation was neat but needed removal of dashboard trim and attachment of an adapter behind the touchscreen. It isn't easy for a VW technician to notice the installation except for the big red power cable attached to the battery. The sub felt overpriced at first, but I'm thoroughly satisfied with the bass.
