Thank you very much for your reply and this thread - I have almost decided on the Pioneer 5290 .

Hi, if you haven't decided already, you should look at some of the newer Pioneer models. The 5290 has been around for quite some time now, and on its way out. Having a resistive touch panel is its biggest con, do check out some of the other brands.

Re: Review: Sony XAV-AX7000 Head Unit

Anyone tried XAV7000 or XAV8000 on Innova Crysta? I so want to have convenience of apple car play in the car but all the HU out there have their own setup of microphone and USB slot. So was just wondering if anyone here has any clue how to use OEM microphone, USB and Steering controls with the upgraded HU. Thanks!

The Sony systems bundle a steering wheel control harness inside the box. It’s a 3.5mm pin that goes into the Sony stereo. The other end is connected to the car’s 2/3 pins for steering wheel control - Key1, Key2 and Ground.

You’ll need to make a similar harness and connect to the two wires which bring BTMic+ve and BTMic-ve signal in your Innova’s audio plug. If the factory mic is an amplified unit, then you will have to use the aftermarket mic.

For USB, you’ll need the appropriate USB adapter.

Hows the ax5500 model from Sony? The Pioneers are out of stock for a long time here. If anyone is using this one please write a review.

I've been using the AX5000 in my Punto for about a month. AFAIK AX5500 is identical to it except for the addition of screen mirroring. UI is similar to AX7000 as posted by the OP with good touch response. No complaints on the audio quality as well. Didn't care much about their 'Dynamic Stage Organizer' feature and prefer to keep it turned off. In case it helps, have paired the HU with a Pioneer D8704 amp.
Only part I didn't like is that only one USB port can be used for CarPlay/Android Auto. The other one recognizes only USB storage devices. So make sure the primary USB connection is routed for easy access to phone.

If you're not keen on screen mirroring feature you can probably pick up the AX5000 at good discounts. I got mine in the last Flipkart sale for 13k-odd.

Great review, thanks. I am looking to upgrade to this or the Pioneer DMH-Z6350BT. Inclined towards the latter since it has wireless Android Auto.

Re: Review: Sony XAV-AX7000 Head Unit

Can someone share what is the boot time for AX7000? Contemplating this vs DMH-Z5290BT but seems like the Pioneer one has an approximately 10 sec boot time. That becomes a pain if my car stalls and I am going to use the HU for navigation.

Re: Review: Sony XAV-AX7000 Head Unit

Is there digital time alignment setting in AX7000 ? I am using JVC KW-M960BW in S-Cross and the time alignment did wonders to the listening experience. I am looking for a slightly less expensive HU for Baleno. AX7000 is available for 26k.

No, there isn't. In fact there is only a 10 band equaliser, fader/balance, and basic settings only. For advanced tinkering, you need to use a DSP.

I am planning to install this on my Honda Jazz 2017 model, should I change the speaker set?

If you are looking for an audio upgrade, then you can do it in stages i.e. first HU change, then speakers + 4 channel amplifier and later on a subwoofer can be added.

The sound quality with stock speakers will show quite an improvement. You can consider upgrading the speakers after changing the Head Unit. Please check and reconfirm that the installer has all the required couplers and harnesses required as Honda uses proprietary connectors.

Re: Review: Sony XAV-AX7000 Head Unit

I recently purchased Sony XAV AX7000 and Infinity Reference 6520cx component speakers for the front, Infinity Reference 6522ex Coaxial Speakers for the rear, and Sony XS AW8 Underseat 8" Powered Subwoofer for my Suzuki Ciaz 2019 DDiS 225 Delta variant.

I am from Madurai, Tamilnadu, where it is quite hard to find a professional car audio installation center.
I have numerous queries regarding the installation process.
1. Is damping absolutely necessary?
2. How and where to install the subwoofer gainer knob for snug and aesthetic fit?
3. How to properly install the HU for fully functional steering mounted controls?
4. Can I install the USB extension to the default pre-existing USB outlet in Suzuki Ciaz 2019 DDiS 225 Delta variant? If so, how?
5. I have purchased a Blaupunkt 4AWG Amp wiring kit to install the subwoofer. Will that work fine, or is it quite thick for a 75RMS Sub?
6. I have purchased a Blaupunkt DH04 Reverse parking camera, need to know the performance and longevity of the same.

These are some of my queries; please feel free to give your inputs, recommendations, and insights for the best performance and output from the above-mentioned accessories. And also, if you recommend some other accessories, please provide amazon or other e-commerce links to purchase the same.
