Palio ICE help needed.

Guys I am a big zero when it comes to ICE. Right now my car has a very average ICE setup. I have a JVC KD-G413 Head unit (bought it because it was the cheapest option which comes with an aux input to connect my ipod), A 2 channel JVC KS-AX3300 amplifier (Dont ask why) , a set of 6x9 JVC co-axials and some crappy kenwood (probably fake) speakers in the front.

My budget is around 40K. Please suggest what I should go for.

I listen to varied kind of music. From Daler bhai to Pearl Jam... From Himesh to 50 Cents... Dont want too much boom boom...just good quality music. I drive more than 50Kms a day and roughly spend 2 hrs a day in my car.

Moreover i am too confused about whether to spend a fortune on a good amp or not? Another confusion is : JBL or Hertz? So I want to leave everything to the Gurus...Please Help
Can someone tell me if I should keep the current head unit or should I go for a pio.

40K is a good enough budget.

I couldn't make out how many pre-outs the HU has. If it has two, good. If only one (most likely), you should consider changing the HU for a Pio 4950 or something like that. I don't know how the JVC sounds so I can't comment based on that.

Between Hertz & JBL, it would be a good idea to listen for yourself and decide

Fronts (6.5" comps in stock pods): HERTZ DSK165 or JBL GTO607c (approx 6.5K)
Rears (5.25" coaxes in stock speaker pods): HERTZ DCX130 or JBL GTO527 (approx 4K)
Sub (12" sub): JBL GT4-12 12" sub in a custom-built ported box in boot (5K + 1.5K = 6.5K)
Amp : Your existing amp should do an almost decent job with the sub in bridged mode. Depending on the webpage it puts out 280w or 320w max. If it is not enough (try it with the sub), get a Pio 6200 (8K) or JBL CS60.4 (9K) Power the rears off the existing JVC amp.
Power and RCA wires: Stinger/Twister/Other good brand (approx 3K)
Damping: About 3-4K max (you don't need a lot for a Palio).
TOTAL: About 32K (if you buy a new amp also -- recommended since you have the budget. Else 24K).

If you add a HU (switch to Pio 4950) add 6K to make the total 38K.

If you want to max-out your budget (and a bit more), get a JBL GTO 75.4 amp instead of the ones I mentioned above (13K). I'd recommend this.

You'll probably get a maximum of 3K or so for the existing stuff (including the 2-ch amp) you have in the car if you sell it/exchange it, so you can take that off the total.

I actually googled the amp and got different specs on different webpages. But yes, still on cloud nine.

You're in New Delhi. That makes both Hertz and JBL accessible to you. Go and listen to both and decide.

Went to Driven the other day...Listened to Hertz...I was awestruck considering what I was used to listening in my car. But I still want to listen to JBL before deciding as it is gonna cost me a lot (as per my pocket ..he he).

As per the JVC site KS-AX3300 gives 320W max.

Now that is correct advice. No one brand is better than another. let your ears decide for you. Luckily you have access to both products.

Actually I am starting to be more sure in my earlier theory
"Our ears are very good if only we know what to listen for".

In keeping with that theory I would suggest that you listen to a few brands that are a bit more refined (albeit more expensive). Infinity, Alpine (R/S), Hertz Hi Energy, Blau Velocity, Boston, etc.. why you should even try to hear Focal, DLS (LBM is in your area), etc...once you listen you will know what to look for, what is missing, and what are the various strengths and weaknesses of your (proposed) system.

I would suggest you to get a decent HU with 3 pre outs if your current HU doesn't have it. Pioneer 5950 is a good option available below 8k. Get compos for front and 5.25" coax as told earlier. Power everything from the HU. Get a JBL sub and connect it to your amp.

later when you gather some more green, get a decent 4channel amp and power your speakers from it.

Then, you can gather more green and follow Hydra's way of ICING a Palio. See it in sound off, show off section.

Great choice of equipment Rishi! How about a breakup of cost of the equipment that went in? How do you find the sound?
