let me help you here.

Does Clarion also take on the same lines to make profits?

I know some of their units share the works. for eg. 576UB, 676UB and 776UB (not sure on the model numbers)

I've heard that spares of Clarion are hard to find in India and so the A.S.S is pretty bad.

Just as good or as bad as Alpine really. AFAIK The same company distributes and services both.

that's not all.

I called the number on the website for more information. All the support numbers, dealer numbers, contact numbers and what not belong to one group only. Supreme Audiotronics.

When I called them, I was asked to look for JVC instead.

In Mumbai their A.S.S if good but not on the lines of Balupunkt. Still I have seen fewer Alpines give trouble than Blaus. I do not have adequate expereince with Clarion to comment.

Wow Clarion representative pushing JVC instead....
Looks like they arent being backed up properly now.

Same was the word of my installer. In my city, there is only guy who stocked Clarion's complete range with him.
Recently when I went, there wasnt a single piece. Reason given to me was that The company's support system in India is itself backing out. So, he is helpless.

you shouldnt have entered the thread in the first place. It's meant for clarion's only. or atleast that's what the title says. (I wouldnt mention what all has gone on until now though)

Yes you are correct. But in the early 90s. Right from the first Maruti 800 Deluxe (with Aircon) Also in the first gen OHC (branded as Honda)

Clarion Cassete HU's used to rock( Not the models on Marutis and hondas though)- they were the pick of the worst..( I think they were Gimme what what you have for 50 bucks type)..... I ve spent a good many hours on them and many a mile in a friends car in the 80's and 90's lsitening to Clarions... I guess there CD players have carried on there heritage very well indeed.

that's when Alpine took over at Honda.

If I am not wrong. Clarion has been losing sales globally. those who use it swear by it but others dont even know about it or wont go for it. Shows sheer ignorance.

I don't know much about Clarion, but when I tried to see something about current Clarion, I happened to see this:

"Their DVD players actually read MP3s from DVD/R/RW formats. Some DVD players will play DVD movies, but can only read MP3s from CD. This defeats the most powerful incentive for having a DVD player, but isn't a problem for Clarion."

from: Clarion Car Audio - Mobile Stereo Systems

Reminds me of the discussion that went long and strong about the HU which played just audio CD's and not MP3's. Ok, I know that thread is closed and we're not discussing that anymore, but strange are the ways of doing business by Clarion
