Hi Beerus,

Did you check if the Pi doesn't switch off even after some minutes as mentioned by gischethans for his Punch.

If that's the case then I'm not sure if it'll become a problem for battery drain in my Skoda Rapid as well !!

Also, did the lag reduce with new cables ??

Thanks

Re: Use Rpi Zero as a cheaper alternative for Wireless Android Auto | Cost under 2,000 rupees

Firstly many many thanks for this post
Been trying to buy a Motorola Wireless AA adapter from acquaintances in the US for sometime now.
This post has provided a solution in INR 1600 which is amazing..

I have a 2022 Altroz i-Turbo & reading in the trailing posts that this worked on a Tata PUNCH I went ahead with trying it.

The steps are spot-on as mentioned. So followed them to the T.
Had a bad Cable when I tried to connect to first time. Replacing the cable solved the problem.

Observations:

Yes, as mentioned in the post it takes about a minute to connect once the car's instrument cluster is powered on.

I noticed, its actually a bit fast in responding than the wired connection. Will keep observing if thats really the thing.

Question: The Raspberry Pi has a very tiny LED that stays powered on. Would it really contribute in draining the Car battery if I forget disconnecting it while exiting the car. The size of the LED really looks harmless.

No this shouldnt be a problem as Tata's infotainment system disconnects supplying power to USB after 30 secs of car lock. I have checked it in my Nexon EV and this is how it happen there.. And the moment we unlock the car, the power gets supplied to Raspberry Pi and by the time we turn on the car, the connection is already established between mobile+HU through AA

Though I am still trying hard to find a logger which can print the power consumption of Raspberry pi so that I can study if my presumptions are indeed correct!

In Vw's the usb port from the head unit always has power, so it doesn't turn off the pi after the car is locked.

yes the new cable did reduce the lag, but I am still experiencing audio stutters frequently.

I'm indeed that non-techie average joe you mentioned and it took me less than 20 minutes to finish the project. Voila, the sense of accomplishment I felt, it was worth it. And what more, I must have saved at least 2.5 k..

I built the adapter with Raspberry Pi zero 2w. Purchased all components new and it cost me ₹2569 in total with taxes. Used for over 15 hours already and I'm happy that it works like charm. No heating issues (used copper heatsink) or disconnection issues as yet. Connects within 15 seconds in my Tata Punch almost always.

You can use most of the old SD cards you may have lying around. The uncompressed image on the SD card is mere 150 MB+. I've loaded it on to a 256 MB card that has been in my stash for many years now.

One of my device stopped working. It switches on but does not connect to bluetooth or wifi. Has this happened to anyone? Are there any troubleshooting techniques for this? Also audio quality became too distorted during the final days before the device completely stopped working.

If there is sufficient space (like in the Nexons) I've found it more convenient to use adapters rather than cables (primarily because it is easier to physically disconnect and reconnect). I use a USB Type-A Male to type C male followed by a Type C female to Micro Male.

Something like https://amzn.in/d/ezYZ2rP and https://amzn.in/d/2HwwfEa

Could be a corrupt sdcard. Did you try reflashing the firmware.

For troubleshooting you can use any bluetooth scanner app on Android or IOS and similar apps for WIFI, that should confirm if its a hardware issue or SD CARD, alternatively you could format and reflash the software on SDCARD.
