HUs with good displays but cheap

Are there any?

By "good" display I mean if I am playing some mp3s off a flash drive, the HU displays Artist, Album, Song Title from the ID3 tags. Preferably they are displayed altogether on one screen (and are readable), but scrolling will do.

By "cheap" I mean less than 10K (grey).

Also, to put another restriction, something with decent SQ.

I don't have anything against pioneer persay, but both the 7950 and the 5050 don't have a "good" display (as per my definition above). It just seems like we are still in the stone age when it comes to HU displays. Same old monochromatic displays, and stunted scrolling (why can't we have smooth scrolling?)

To give an idea of what I would call a good display, nay, an excellent display, is the Alpine iDA-X100 ()

p.s. I know that HU is waaaaay out of the 10K range... it's just an example. Do we have anything between the 7950 and the iDA-X100 (i.e. in terms of display)?

So anything better?

another vebmetal HU thread !! we may still be in the stone age when it comes to HU displays, but it'll be 500 years in the future before you get your 'perrrrfect' HU dude !!

Pioneer is the only one which can offer you best display under 10K grey. The colored display is only offered in some high end pioneer & kenwood units.

Yes the pioneer has the best display. The High end pioneer like the 8850 has a color display but it does not have usb support but that can be added buy getting a USB adapter for pioneer. Hu comes for 13k in grey.

Dont know about kenwood.

Just went and looked around 4 shops... seems like the only HU that suits me is the 7950. Even then it's not great. Quite basic, too bad I can't afford the iDA-x100.

The 6050 / 6090 will have the same display, right? And it should be cheaper than the 7950. Elegant said that with B&W 7950 = Rs. 15,000 and 6090 when launched one month from now = Rs. 12,000, so I assume that in grey it will be cheaper as well... perhaps around 8K or so. Right? Also is his one month timeline accurate?

If you are willing to wait indefinitely then good otherwise just get the 7950 as you have stated it seems to suit you(even though you dont like it )

Regarding 6050, one can never be sure about the timeline as the grey suppliers will do what suits them best.

Here in Bangalore 7950 = 8800/- and 5050 = 7200/- to 7500/-

The grey rates for xx50 series has shot up by nearly Rs700 in the last 2 weeks as dealers claim "maal" is not being supplied. I feel it could be because the wholesalers are first trying to clear what existing stocks they have of 6950/7950.

Guyz..i'm having a 8950 & it looks pretty decent to me.

The 8950BT comes integrated with bluetooth & the USB. Since, it was a grey market buyout, the dealer screwed up on the USB interface, mentioning that it does not come with the box. Will anyone know how to connect a USB adapter/ cable to the 8950???? Someone also suggested that USB interface may be on the rear of the HU too. Gotta remove & check it out.

It cost me 14.2K.
