I did some amount of research of browsing thro the different speaker specifications and came up with the following combination. Please let me know if it will sound good:

Alpine HU (basic - probably 9883)
Kenwood 4 channel amp (probably Kenwood 8401)
Illusion EL 6.1 component speakers for front (for clarity, decent distortionless tight bass)
Infinity Kappa 693.7i 6x9 coax in the rear tray (I picked this up for the bass as the spec says that the freq response starts from 35 Hz, which is the best in the segment compared to the other brands like Illusion, Hertz and Blaupunkt 6x9's)

But I am not sure if it will be good if I go with different brand/type of speakers for front and rear - here Illusion and Infinity.

One more thing I found while analysing different brands is that Pioneer Kevlar Series speakers looks impressive atleast from their specs. Infact they have frequency response starting from as low as 22 Hz (Pioneer TS-C160R + TS-D691s/TS-E6996) and they boast many other features. How well do these impressive specs convert to actual listening. Please let me know as I am sure I cannot audition all of them at Bangalore to come to a conclusion.

Better to believe your ears than the specs. Pick one that you have heard.

The Infinity 6x9 is good, but so are the JBL (GTO 937), Blau (THx693), Hertz, Illusion etc. - not much to differentiate there, especially if you drive it with an amp.

Even the Pio is not bad, but 22Hz? Yeah right, may be at -36 dB in an anechoic chamber, definitely not in the car.

Mixing and matching to suit your budget and taste is not a mistake.

DerAlte,

I am slightly lost out here. From whatever information I have, Infinity kappa 6x9 is priced nearly 3 times as that of JBL GTO 937. So, even if JBL GTO could come close enough to Infinity kappa's sound effect (including bass), then I would gladly choose GTO 6x9. I do not see any reason for me to pay three folds for a fractionally better sound effect.

By the way, is there a place in Bangalore where I could audition most of these high end brands - Infinity, Illusion, Hertz, etc.

Bass from a Component Speaker ?
I was not aware that component speakers could produce the bottom 2 octaves;

This Component plays OK till 70 Hzs or 60 Hzs at best. That is low mid bass.

To play 30 cycles - a sub woofer is a must.

I suggest that you buy 2 pairs of components for the front & rear doors & invest in a sub for the boot & make that a removable one;;;

Bhagwan, wouldn't it be better if he uses a pair of comps in front & pair of coaxs in rear & a removable sub at back? This will help him keep his budget low.

I am sorry to go off tangent;

However, Sony is a Nobody in LCD.
The 'Father' of them all is Sharp.
They [Sharp] are the leaders in LCD - Globally. Please do some 'googling'

To get back to your Swift;

The Swift sounds best with with speakers in the 4 doors. The compant has provided for that.
If you need some 'bass' then add a sub.

Basically suggestions are price & choice of music dependent.
Please do specify both & the 'Audio Gurus' will come up with some suggestions.....

Yes;

No sub is a good idea;
However, if our friend listens to Hip Hop - then he will be very very disappointed without a sub.

I personally do not like 6 X 9's
I prefer components. Cheaner sounding - I am a SQ person - out & out.

All said, 6X9's are great VFM !! Very sensative [easy to drive off the HU] & if well installed on a 'strong' re-enforced Parcel Tray, they can be very very effective & you will not miss a sub woofer just about].....

What I meant was that if he wants sub then instead of going for Comps at rear door he can use normal round Coax speakers at rear door

3 times the price won't get you 3 times the bass; if it were to be that different, everyone would have bought Kappa 6x9 instead of a sub and amp. I assume you have already auditioned them.

There is no single place where all these can be auditioned. For the Infinity (and JBL) you have to go to Sound Factor. Hertz I don't know - Sprocket Koramangala carries them but doesn't audition. Illusion - PM @s0uljah if he can oblige.

Bhagwan,

I was initially thinking of going for a sub, but 2 things are worrying me: I want decent luggage space all the time and the sub I believe will occupy almost all the bootspace of Swift. One more apprehension is that the sub will also lead to some extra vibrations/noises due to the relatively poor build quality of swift.

Because of these reasons, I am trying to set up my ICE with just the speakers. From my reading of different audio threads, I was convinced that the 6x9 will give that bass that is lacked by the components. I do perfectly understand that the 6x9 wont produce the bass effect given by Sub, but I am willing to compromise.

Deralte,

Thanks for the pointers.

I am just trying to get some speakers that will be as close as possible to the effect of Sub. And I am perfectly clear that there is no speaker in this world that can act as a substitute to a sub.

Infact I am not expecting 3 times more bass from kappa series, but a considerable improvement from that of the JBL due to the manifold pricing. If that is not the case, I would like to stay away from kappa series.

Arey Sir aap to bura maan gaye..dont be sorry for nothin....i know Sharp is the inventor for LCD...am i right Bhagwan bhai...please enlighten my knowledge...

I am back on the topic for the Audio system in my swift.

For the Gurus...

My budget is 20k currently.

I am music freak but my budget is the constraint...

I listen Rock, Dance numbers, Indian Oldies, casually hip hop, ideally anything that sounds good to my ears....

My requirements -
USB, Equilizer customization, 3 pre-outs as i will add the sub and the amplifier later as soon as i have some more cash in my kitty and if i dont feel content with the installed setup....

Should be able to control the sounds of all the four speakers individually.
Should be able to hear all the instruments clear at low volume as well.

Want no wire cuttings in the OEM provided wires.

My existing research -

I am aware of Sony 460US which i think is not good enough to be considered for good music...
I am aware of JBL 607C components.
I am also aware that its better to fit components in the front and coax in the rear.

Went to Poona motors today. Not ready to advise much unless i bring the car to him and assure to fit it from him. He says there are many things and he cannot waste time explaining me the stuff...
He gave me approximate quotes as under and said will finalize once i decide to fit it.

Pioneer HU(3050/5050) - Rs7000 - 8000 - 9000
JBL Components 607 - 2000-3000
Spacers - 200
He mentioned that theres something new coming from JBL for components under G5 series and will be cheap as well.
He also mentioned that Alpine has no USB option.

He finally said you get the details of what you want and he will give me the quote.

Technocrat i still need to go to Bafna motors but i dont know where its located in Pune.

I dont know where to go from here. Its all on you Gurus to help me further.

@Tush: Get the 3050/5050/7950/6050 I'd recommend the 6050 or the 7950 readily. - 9.5k
Illusion Comps - 4.5k
JBL 6x9's rear - 3k

Just my stupid suggestion, you'll definatly get better sound for 20k.

Any good German MP3 Headunit available ?

Gurus,

Is there a good German brand CD/MP3 headunit that is more superior (build quality & sound) to that of Alpine/Pioneer. I am not able to gather much info about the different German brands. I am also not sure if buying at Germany is better or does Singapore/India makes sense.

One of my friend is returning from Germany next week and wanted to cash in the opportunity, if there is some good HU available in the price range of Rs.10k at Germany.

Sorry for stretching this thread, but I just want to explore all the possible options before buying something.

Using active Linkwitz Transform you could but the woofer would be very severely stressed.

Becker (division of Harman Intl so I wonder if you can really call them German).

But but most things in Germany are more expensive than in India.
