Great sounding simple SQ setup for Swift

Hi Gurus,

I want to add a good SQ setup for Swift, but at the same time want to keep that simple with just the following components:

1. A basic, reliable and great sounding MP3 headunit (USB/IPOD support not needed and the extra features are good to have, but not necessary) - Thinking of Alpine CDA-9883
2. Component speakers in the front
3. Coaxial speakers (2 or 3 way) at the rear

I am not sure of the budget, but am ready to stretch to a pretty high level if it is really worth the price. I am not going to add any amplifier, subwoofer, equilizer, etc ... even in the future. I know that the bass produced by the Subwoofer/basstube cannot be achieved with any type of speaker, but I want the speakers that are best possible in this aspect.

I want clean sounding speakers with good tight bass and good highs. I listen to the tamil movie songs at a fairly high volume. I did have infinity reference 5010cs in the front and 6010 coaxials in the rear in my earlier car (Siena) driven by Pioneer 3050mp. Frankly, I did not like the bass response given by that system, though the treble was good.

Please give your suggestion. I am also planning to pick the stuff from Singapore through my friend, if it works cheap out there. I also have a planned trip to France this month end if it will help to get some good stuff.

Thanks & Regards,
SKB.

Before reading about your expereince with Infinity I was going to suggest a6020/6012 combo. In fact the 6020 is noticebly better balanced than the 6010 (atleast to my ears) so dont discount Infinity. I would audition Infinity, Illusion (Lucent), Hertz (Hi-Energy), Blaupunkt (Thc/Thx).

Also a good 4 ch. amp does not occupy much space and can really help in bass definiition. I would consider getting a Kenwood 8401, JBL GT5-604, Blau GT4 Special, or Pioneer 6300.

If you're ready to spend quite a bit, why don't you try auditioning Illusion Carbons?

If you want component speakers with excellent midbass output (both quantity & quality), and budget is not an issue, the Hertz Mille MLK165 would be a good option.

I've tried running them full range (with the subwoofer turned off, no rear speakers) in a medium-sized sedan (mine) and was rather impressed with the results. They were getting 100 watts of good amplification per channel though and would perform best with that much, or I suspect even more.

Dont know what you mean by good highs...the MLK 165 has a mellow/warm treble response that suits my listening tastes, may not be the last word in detail though.

They retail for around 35K.

LBM,

Thats a very valid point as my first post was vague from the budget aspect. I am planning to put 20k for the 4 speakers and at the max I can stretch to 25k, if it is really worth it.

The above mentioned budget is not inclusive of the headunit.

Thanks,
SKB.

Just my one bit, but a good amplifier will certainly work wonders especially with the components.
Sub-woofer is a personal choice, but i really don't see the point of spending 25K on speakers and running them off the HU.

Point taken Vikram San and Navin San. I will incorporate the amp in the 25k budget and so that leaves me with 20k INR for 4 speakers.

A "good" amp should cost you 7-8k + wiring

The Kenwood 8401 is good with jbl comps (auditioned), try to audition this with illusion comps. Comes around to 5,300 INR at Chennai.

Either of the 4 amps mentioned in my last post will run you 7-8K + 2K for wiring. That leaves 15K for 2 components and 2 coax. For this budget I would include Infinity 6020/6012, Illusion Electra (in fact you'll havce a few K with the Electra - The Lucent will cost you 20K+), Hertz Energy (I think even the Hi_Engery wil be over 15K/4 speakers), Blau THc/THx etc.

Even i want to ICE up my new swift with good Audio System. But with so many brands available for HU for eg. Alpine, Blua.., Kenwood, Pioneer, JVC and Sony which ones should be considered the best to even start researching for it. Every manufacturer is recognized as a specialists in the respective market. Like Sony is recognized for LCD TVs.

Since you are having 20k budget get speaker in the price range of 6-10k. and spend the rest on a 4-channel amp. I would get a Electra for 13k and spend 7 k on the amp.
