Sony HU stopped reading RW discs!! Whats the solution??

Guys, I've started facing some problems with my Sony 250S HU after using it for just over 15 months. The problem is that when I insert a computer generated RW cd, it displays "error" and rejects it. If i then wipe the Cd and re insert it, the Cd plays on usually the third attempt.

These are the things i have tried. I have used a cd lens cleaner (dry type) and have had the HU taken out and cleaned by a guy in Sec 16 Noida. He used acetone and a cotton stick to wipe off the dust. Did not touch/clean the lens itself though saying that it will be ruined.

So guys is lens replacement the only way out?

your CD laser might have gotten weak. CD lasers loose power even if not used.

Can this be corrected; or one has to replace the whole system?

Replacing the laser is almost as expensive as getting a new system, moreover it is not a recommended exercise.

The problem is not with sony HU's alone. Even my Pio refuses to play the same cd-rw that it used to play before and the cd is not scratched. So i guess the laser might have gone weak. No amount of head cleaning solved the problem and it's now starting to throw errors on even new cd-r's after it plays for 2-3 times.

Best idea. What i have seen is a CD-RW costs Rs 40. and a normal CD costs Rs. 10. Appx life of CD-RW is 10 writes Max now days. I still have CD-RW with me which didnt worked after 2 - 3 times of use.

So best idea is to just write CD's

Yes you can exchange the Sony HU just dont tell him it doesn't Read CD-RW. Just play a normal CD in it.

USB HU range starts from ~4.5K grey. For 4.5K you can get Kenwood 436U/4036U and JVC Front USB input. Pioneer 4050 is around 5-5.5k depending upon city.

If u exchange it for a new one, you may get around 1.5k Approx. I'd say, if you are happy with the present HU except for the RW issue, stop using CD-RW's! simple! else, exchange it for a new one. repairing the lens may be an expensive affair.
