Humming Noise after amp install.

Hello gurus,
I installed a sony amp. i have no sub-woofer. connected the 4 spekers to the amp.

after install, when i start the engine a humming noise comes and when i accelerate to change the gears it becomes more. if i switch off the music system the noise stops.( this noise i hear if i play the music with 0 volume :-) )
i went and showed to the guy who installed the amp, he said some earthing problem, took some 300 buck for some JBL cables for the connection between the music system to amp. previously he was using a local adapter.( my HU(JVC)has only 2 channel but the amp is 4 channel, so i guess that cable converts 1 to 2 - adapter).
after this the noise has reduced but when i switch on my AC the noise still comes.

also that guy told if still the humming noise comes, the earthing in the HU circuit should be disabled(thats what i understood)

any idea ???

Madhukar, is it a Pioneer HU you are using? They are notorious for the pico fuse related ground noise issues. Search around, there is a thread (by clipto333 I think) where the solution has been discussed.

Sorry for the joke in your thread, I couldn't resist.

so it is a earthing issue ?? nothing else right ?
i will ask him to rectify it and if does not solve will show to a better installer.

Why did you underestimate Gunbir's sense of humor?

On another note, I am also facing alternator whine. Got the Ground Zero RCAs checked, earthing checked and also reduced the gains on the amplifier. Nothing worked.

My installer suspected it the infamous Pioneer blown IC issue. However, we tried with an old Pio HU but the whine was still there. So could it really be Pio HU problem? If yes, then it has to be a great coincidence that the replacement old Pio HU also had a blown IC.

So what can the culprit be?

It is probably the Pio HU. Its not an IC but the pico fuse that blows. All you have to do is ground the outer metal of the RCA plug to the metal of your car. See the links in this thread. They have instructions and pics.

Do try some better interconnects too. The JBL cables you bought are fakes. They are no good.
