Hello Gurus...

Frankly speaking I have no clue about ICE and I am very new to it, just seeking help from you all....

My present Setup has:-
1) Pioneer DVD player - AVH 5750DVD
2) Sony 504Z 4 Channel Amplifier
3) JBL 12inch Bass tube
4) Pioneer 6x9 460 Watts Speakers
5) Kenwood normal speakers for front
6) Pioneer TS-20 tweeters

I know the above setup is seriously very bad except the Head unit as I had no clue that ICE is so vast.... It was only after joining Team Bhp I knew all this about ICE and saw some professional clean install from you all.... Now I have decided to get some good stuffs in and may be get my ICE a good sounding one..

Following are the products I got for my upgrade are:-
1) JVC Head Unit AVX-810J
2) MTX Audio 4 channel Amplifier TC4004 (400Watts RMS)
3) 4 gauge wiring kit from Stinger
4) JBL GTO 601.1 Monoblock

As after looking the above details can you please tell me what else I need for my ICE upgrade...

Kindly suggest the Speakers and also suggest Is it advisable to replace the Bass tube with a Sub-woofer if yes kindly throw some light on this as which brand to go for and the price for it... I don't mind putting 2 subs also, space not a problem with me...

Budget For Speakers Front and Rear - Rs.10-12K
Budget for subwoofer or woofers - Rs.12-13K

Kindly suggest... Would be waiting for your replies...

If you are happy with the tube, you need not replace it. A tube sub generally is 'boomier' as compared to a sub in a sealed box, i.e. bass notes play slightly longer.

If you want to replace the tube, you could go in for a JBL, Infinity or Ground Zero sub - either a ready-made box or get a sub, get the box built to specs and mount it. Don't put 2 subs of different types. If you really like your bass to be loud, put 2 single-VC 4-ohm subs of the same type in a large box, connect them in parallel to the 600.1.

Shifting the sub to its own amp is a good idea - it will allow you to drive the rear ovals through the freed-up 2 channels of the 4-ch amp. You can also consider a good 2-ch amp connected in bridge mode, instead of a the 600.1, if you are playing a single sub. A mono amp for the sub is always much costlier than a good 2-ch amp.

Replace the Kenwood 'normal' speakers in front with a pair of components (the rear Pio ovals need not be replaced). Consider JBL GTO 608c or Infinity Reference or Illusion Electra components. It is a good idea to audition before deciding, but I doubt if you can get an opportunity to do that in Ranchi.

He could think of driving down to Kolkata & auditioning the setups of a few TBHP members. In fact there is a TBHP picnic taking place here in less than 2 weeks!

Its true to audition before deciding and very rightly said theres no chance of auditioning these products in Ranchi, Well I would be getting products from Bangalore and would be getting it Installed in Ranchi( I know a good installer there).

I too am planning to upgrade my ICE..

Pls suggest upgradation for the following:
Pioneer 6950 Headunit
Pioneer Amp 4 Channel (dont remember the model - Its 2003 model)
Pioneer 3way conical speaker
Pioneer Ts 20 tweeters
Kenwood 600watt 12 inch Sub.

I know its quiet outdated.

I am basically looking for an amp and Sub upgrade.
Pls suggest with approx cost. My Budget - is around 15k
Also any idea how much can i get for my old amp and sub.

@zerocritical - It will probably be helpful to the Gurus if you let them know what you find lacking in your present setup. Also, how are the speakers placed now?

lacking the punch at higher volumes.. its awesome at lower - mid volumes..

I think its because of 600watts sub.. heard now the standard is 1200 watts...

placement is two speakers+sub @ boot
tweeters near the front wind screen

Pls suggest if placement can do the trick. :)

@zero - you should go for components at front. Move those conical speakers to rear door stock locations (if they are round ones in 6"-6.5") and throw those tweeters out. The components come as a set of midbass + tweeters + crossover ckt.

Now power the components and sub through amp, let the co-ax driven by HU (if you have a plan for another amp, then get a dedicated amp for sub and power the comps + rear co-ax with current 4 ch amp).

What are the spec of that Kenwood sub, like continuous and peak RMS power @ what ohms etc? What type of enclosure is used for the sub?

Try auditioning TBHP ICE cars at Blore or Hyd, whichever is your location. You will get lot of inputs and can zero down to a good setup.

This amp puts out 300W x 1 at 4 Ohm & 600W x 1 at 2 Ohm. I guess you need to select your sub(s) so that it/ they can be wired to present 2 Ohm to the amp.

3 Way Pioneer speakers are already in the boot.. in an elclosure like sub. Do you mean placing the speakers in the tray? I misplaced the tray :-(

Will check that and let you know. Enclosure is a custom made box. not a tube.

Some popular brands on the forum, in alphabetical order, are Ground Zero, Image Dynamics & JBL.
Any particular reasons for wanting to buy 2 subs?
