JL Audio JL Audio 12W3 V2 D4 - JL Audio 12" DVC Subwoofer: to buy or not to buy?

I found the JL Audio 12W3 V2 D4 - JL Audio 12" DVC Subwoofer last week for R2. 3200 w/o B&W and had a few questions.

1. Is it fake? At that price, I find it hard to believe that it's an original.

2. I have a JBL CS1204 4 OHM SVC sub. Does it make sense to ditch the JBL in favour of this if it's original?

3. How do I check if the sub is original?

1. JL 12W3 for 3.2k ?? Well very very very likely its a fake ! I bought a JL 12W1 for around 6k with B&W and from what i heard JL 12W3 retails for around 15k with B&W. So no way you can get a original one for 3.2k in grey.

2. If you can get your hand on a original JL 12W3, without any doubt throw the JBL CS sub and install this. It's a truly kickass sub. But it needs solid amplification.

Thanks Ethanhunt123.

I've found a few deals like this in the past that have been good ofr me. I just want to make sure that the sub is a fake before I can definitely let go of it.

The price quoted was 5500 with B&W. Isn't the 12W3 and old sub?

5500 with B&W ? It must be 12W1 and not 12W3. 12W3 is not a old sub, you still have 12W3v3 in the JL product line.

Can you PM me where you found this deal though ??

First off, post details of the shop you are buying from, that might be useful in determining its originality.

Hello guys,

I am having a Blaupunkt Bass Tube Sub for my Pioneer 6050 HU !! i enjoy every bit of the sound produced from the sub, and pioneer 5 ways on my palio!!

I have an LPG Kit fitted with toroidal tank. These days I am having difficulty in setting up the spare wheel and the bass tube in the boot !! It became increasingly difficult after i changed from steel rims to 14" alloys and upsized tyres !! and the speaker touched the bass tube and rubs onto it as the car moves !! unable to aboid this problem
I am thinking of removing the sub from the tube and placing it in a smaller box so that I can have the alloys and box fitted neatly and also have some space in the boot ..
is it possible ?
what might be the affect and cost of it ?
what kind of enclosure i should look for ??
what is the best place to do that in bangalore ??

I say forget the J.C road stuff. If you are intent on getting a bargain, buy it without B/W in National market. I will let you know which shop to buy it from, if you want to know. JL is not available at those rates.

Sure thing man! Wud love to check out the deals in National Market. I have gotten some good deals from there too

The question remains though: How do I check if the JL Audio sub is fake?

It would be simpler to get a mounting arrangement made out of steel strip and a bolt to clamp the spare wheel to on one of the sides of the boot area. That way there will be no interference between the sub and the spare wheel.

Otherwise, see if you can get a 1-1.2cft (internal volume) readymade MDF box, buy a good port (or reuse the port from the sub tube) and mount the sub in the box. The box should be available in shops on Mission Road or JC Road in Bangalore.

You did not mention an amp?

Well i dont think i can make an arrangement to mount the wheel .. it doesnt sit in perfectly :( .. it is quite awkwardly sitting in the boot occupying abt 60% of space .. positioned crossly on one of the struts (right side) and slanting down ... The sub (bass tube) sits on the left slanting upwards based on the wheel .. ( i hope i could put the position into words correctly )
so with this arrangement nothing moves .. it is snug fit ... but the bass tue just occupies whatever space is left by the wheel .. and the speaker (left) touches or sits on the sub .. creating a small dent kind of think slowly now. (will post a pic tomorrow )

will changing the sub from tube to box alter the sound output ?/ how much difference does it make ? and how much will it cost ?
I have an amp already... its not a branded one ( my blaupunkt amp got damaged recently .. due to some grounding problm), so bought a non branded one which serves the purpose well .. so not thinking of investing on it.

This is the setup I am having on my palio currently !
The awkward position of the bass tube and tyre has eaten up my boot space like anything .. on top of it, i m afraid the tube is getting damaged by rubbing against the speaker magnet

well nothing happens actually .. just that there is no space.. wheel is a snug fit and the bass tube sits on it like this !! so thats the issue ... i m knowing how to make it better !

I was even thing of getting a safari like setup for the spare wheel to be clamped on the hatch but again that will make the door very heavy i believe !!
