Thats strange. The retailer told me there are no Mp3 players in multi CD changers. They will only play normal CD's.
Incorrect. They have been around for long. I have an Alpine 6 CD MP3 player since 3 years now.

Decision Time

I am sourcing to install a CD/Mp3 changer in my baleno Vxi which has a OE Kenwood with 4 speakers.

I got a quote from am authorised Sony Retailer as follows: I am more keen on 10 CD/MP3 changer than amp and woofer.

HU: CDX-757MX 10disc CD/Mp3 Changer Rs 9,990
Amplifier: XM-504Z: 4/3 Channel Stereo Power Amp 500W Rs. 5,990
Sub-Woofer: XS-L122P5:30 cms Rs 3,990.

I will be using the 4 stock speakers and the Kenwood HU along with the above config as mu parents listen to Regional Casettes occasionaly.

Does this pricing sound right? Any reccomendations on the config? Are their better products with similar/lower prices?

hey Rishi.
instalation is a key factor here. sony got the best anti-skips around because they are the ones who created "Compact Discs" so they know what they are doing.

also, dont preferably buy stuff from sony authorized dealers. they only give a 1 year warranty & i can bet that if you use your system properly. you wont have problems.

ill suggest that u buy everything in the grey market. with the money saved u can atleast buy a pair of good new rear speakers. like the amp u can get for rs. 4500 instead of 6000. u save 1500 there itself. think it over.

the last car cd player i saw that skipped was in 1990. today i rarely have seen a car cd player that skips. most of them have decent shock absorbing systems and tend to rely on that instead of ESP (sony's terminology for the 10-20-30 sec of memory).

even back in the late 80s we could buy and install a player that rarely skipped. i had one in my contessa then.

mu guess is that your friend got a bad piece. the laser's mount must be critical. try this. run and cd player an whack th dash. if it skips somethings wrong.

Thanks for the info. Any idea where I can source this in Mumbai.
Rishi, sorry for the late reply. Was traveling.
Wrong info from the retailer. MP3 changers have been around for years now. Either he does not know what he is talking about or is trying to sell you something else.

You can try any of the 'imported' shops. The Sony dealers will probably not have it in stock but can source it if you give them an exact model number. Do your research on the net and then tell them the model to source. my 565MXRF may not be a current model now.
The great thing about the RF part is it will play with any head unit (that has FM radio) and also deliver CD quality sound.

FM does compress the dynamic range though i suspect in a car this is actually desirable.

IIRC it is phillips who actually pioneered CD technology.

my 7710S xplod skips quite a lot,
and i guess i know what the reason is.
Once when i was trying to pull out the detachable HU (before i knew how to take it out), the whole player just came lose .
so it definitely is bad installation, right. I'll get it fixewd ASAP.
