Try to get hold of the JVC AVX2 single din HU, should be around 12.5 to 15 K, Handles DVD-A multi-channel and WAV's on DVD, and the screen though small helps in navigating the menu structure on DVD-A discs.

cheers

panky, read the thread. He's not looking for a budget DVD HU. He's looking for a budget HU that plays DVD-Audio.

WAV on USB is hard to get too. Has been mentioned in one of those high end HU threads. Search and ye shall find.

The kenwood x991. Expensive. And out of production. No point getting it.

I don't think there is a HU capable of playing DVD-Audio here in India. So obviously it will not fit into a small budget. DVD Audio takes up a lot of disc space, hence was not a commercial success. I converted some songs to DVD Audio and burned it on to a DVD. It could hold only 70-80 minutes of music.

But looks fantabulous. And the successor is pretty tame compared to it's daddy.

@esteem_lover : Why would you convert tracks to DVD-Audio? Unless you had the studio masters, this would be akin to converting 128Kbps MP3 to WAV and then burning it as an audio CD.

I was converting CD format not MP3. I was curious to check whether my DVD HU would play DVD Audio. The manual was not clear about that, so wasted one DVD.

You don't need a DVD HU for SQ. There are plenty of SQ setups in here that use HUs like Eclipse, Clarion , Alpine, etc.
About the files, you could move up to 320kbps mp3 (should be ripped well).
Or even listen to Lossless Audio like FLAC or Apple Lossless from an iPod.
