I am facing the first problem with my MiLeap. The switch to enable the Wireless/BlueTooth is is malfunctioning (seems to have a loose contact). Have to get HCL to attend to it.

Somehow havent found time to get it checked up bec. now the switch is permanently in on position so I havent dared to play with the switch. The switches both the power on and wireless ones are quite flimsy.

Supports Add on Memory Device
If required can be connected to an LCD for Larger Display

Re: HCL MiLeap as a CarPC Discussion

Tablets are good car pc. Just get it and stick it. You are done with car PC
Benefits:
1) No need of pc assembly headache
2) No need of power management
3) No need centrafuse like frontend softwares because Tablets are already finger friendly.
4) Android and iOS have lots of OBD apps
5) Better space management. In case of carpc place for CPU is also headache.
6) Cheaper than building carPC

I dont need to pen down all benefits because everybody knows this stuff.

Re: HCL MiLeap as a CarPC Discussion

Even, I am thinking to use my 7" android tablet as CarPC in my i10, but my only worry is on on the mounting.
Do you guys have any better options to mount on top of stock HU? I don't like to put it on car holders, though I am having one. I would like to put it such a way that it looks stock and can be easily removable?

Re: HCL MiLeap as a CarPC Discussion

For now, tablets can work as Basic and Cheap CarPC replacement. But the major bottleneck is non-availability of a good frontend app for Android and limited CPU power in cheap laptops. A good automotive specific GUI is one of the most important safety aspect and it better be custom designed for Car use to prevent people from fiddling too much during driving or requiring too much attention off the road. Android (till 2.2) was never designed for tablet use and has its own limitations when used with bigger tablet screen resolutions. Lets see what HoneyComb brings in since it is touted to be designed for use in tablets. Also most cheap tablets are severely anemic when it comes to multi-tasking.

Better and more powerful tablets (Ex. Xoom) and a good front end app may tilt the favour towards Tablets as an effective CarPC replacement but we are not there yet...May be in next 6 months to 1 year...
