thanx navin........

I have downloaded the manuals of all the stuff i am getting [from crutchfield].
Using that information, like cut-out diameter and overall diameter of all door speakers and subw, can i build MDF rings now or do i have to wait for those also.

And navin even if i build box now,i can always make minor modifications lat6er on.So should i go ahead and get it built?

I will get the whole system on 15 jan and will install it within 2 days of getting it.So i dont want to wait too much as i have already waited for 2 months.

And navin,gunbir,JB,sam..........plz do give me ur valueble feedback which i need the most now.

For powering 2 subs what would be a more practical thing to do -->
1) Use two mono-blocks each for a sub.
2) Use a 4-Channel amp in bridged mode for 2 subs.

How many amplifiers can be connected in a car and how?

moral fibre, it all depends on the watts the amps deliver. 2 50W monoblocks might not swing as many volts as a 50W/ch * 4 chanel amp.

HELP! Music System went Poof!

Hi Navin, Sam!!

yesterday, my speakers all Front & Rear stopped sounding suddenly, while i was listening to songs.

what could be the problem?

HU seems to be playing( all graphics are there, i'm able to ascend/descend through playlist, i can switch on the FM, and select the stations as well but no sound)

Fuses(two no. 25A each) onAmp(sony 504) are ok, and the one near Battery is fine too.

Help, i got the system installed at Elegant, should i take the car there? or DImYself

in no particular order...

1. do you have a preamp on/off selection on the HU? does the amp's light come on when you switch on the HU? BTW which HU do you have?

2. if you are taking the car to elegant connect the speakers to the HU and see if that works.

3. iif (2) works use another amp and see if that works.

my guess is the amp's PS might have died.

1. i don't think it has any such Switch at least not on the front. No light/indicator provided on my Amp SONY 504 for "ON". My HU is SONY 7710s
2. i have not tried connecting speaker wires directly to HU
3. what are the reasons for Power Supply failure(death), its with in warranty, in fact i've bought this less than a month back.

You can put multiple amplifiers in any car - provided you have the right cabling/distribution and your battery/charging system is able to handle the extra load.
Practical thing to do would be obviously a single four channel amp.(i.e option2) However in my experience, a mono (subwoofer) amp tends to do a slightly better job tha a regular amp bridged, mainly because it is a amp designed to do this job.

My guess is that it is a loose or disconnected wire. If the amp isnt coming on, i think 99% the BLUE (P.connect/remote) wire has come loose. Also there is a possibilty that the earthing connection to the amplifier may be a weak one. There is a very simple test if you have a multimeter and are good at these things. Otherwise, just take it to elegant now.

lol yes. Amongst machine tools, a router is an instrument used to cut precise holes of any shape of a chosen depth in wood or metal etc.
Not that router which is used in a broadband connection.

doubts in car audio specifications

1> A jbl amp says that max input voltage is 7 volts???, does it mean that input voltage can be plus minus 7 volts.

2> Whats the output of my car cesste player?? is it plus minus 12 volts

3> Do i need to connect a resistance b/w my car o/p and amp i/p if these two voltages dont match??

Thanx

KP

I havent heard of a HU out with more than 7V

Whats your cassette player? HU outs are specified in watts (rms)

NO need to add resistance.

Bingo! Sam, u were right on the target.

i check power supply at Amp terminals using a Multimeter, There was none.
Then i checked, for any dc voltage between RED wire at Amp Terminal and nearby ground(bolt), to check if the GND is missing, ..guess, NO Voltage here either.

Now i went straight to the bonnet, and checked voltage between negative Terminal of the Battery and Red wire after the Fuse . No voltage.

Inference, Fuse is Open circuited.

I open the fuse it looked healthy, i tested it for continuity, it was erratic, sometimes showing continuity, some time a resistance of 700ohm and some times -1 (i.e open)
, i thought that may be some corrosion/oxide layer, i tried cleaning it, but still no success.

then i dropped it by mistake, and there goes the glass sleeve/cover. on inspecting it i found that brazing at one of the cap has cracked .

I prayed to god, and connected the lead directly without any fuse in between(just to check if the system works) and Lo, behold it played like a symphony out of sleep.

Now, i 've removed the connection.

What do you suggest, should i still take the car to Elegant or purchase a fuse of same rating (80Amp) from any Audio shop in Noida, i don't want to go to Elegant unnecessarily reason being Lajpat Nagar is way too far from my place.

And, in case i 've to buy a new fuse is it readily available in market? because OEM was BOSS, and the size(dia) is a bit odd, at least i'd not come across any such fuse till this.

SAM, Navin!
