AHAHAHAHAHAHA
Just see what i wrote on this thread many many moons ago AHAHAHA twice a day AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I must be mad. I now get irritated because other people arent posting fast enough!!
Here's a question (though i think i know what you answer will be) I'm only asking becuse i just had a long debate with a friend about this.
What would be a abetter buy, a ready to buy box/tube woofer, or a seperate woofer with a custom built box?
Also, this same friend had GTO series 6x9 speakers in the rear of his alto (he doesnt remember the exact model no.) Now the thing with his speakers was that although clarity was top notch at almost any volume, there was very little bass. And I dont mean it wasn't enough for his liking, it did sound quite flat, even I'd noticed this the one time I sat in his car.
what could be the reason for this? Bad install? defective speakers?
He also had another problem with the same speakers..one of the tweeter assemblies came off. He had to give it back to the JBL dealer to have press fitted back, but he claims the sound was never the same again..He finally changed them for Alpine speakers..all in a span of 6-7 months.
This is the first time I'm hearing of anyone having such problems with their JBL or any speakers for that matter. Can someone throw some light on this? Could he have been sold a defective set? I think he bought them on the grey market.
Finally, what are the price ranges for JBL amplifiers as well as subwoofers?
suhail
I hear there is spurious JBL stuff available. Sometime back someone posted pics of spurious JBL cable.
Id make my own box and get a woofer of my choice. But then I am known for some crazy boxes. Sometime back I posted the techniqure required to make a nice box. Sam might find the link. I am busy packing for rmy holiday.
BTW I will be on vacation from 20-28th but other mods will be watching.

thanks for the quick reply. but that just answers half my questions.
i still dont kno whether to go for 2amps setup, or if i can manage with one amp for sub/front speakers.
n yes have seen some good rates for the alpine amps especially on ebay:)
You can manage with one amp using the 4 ch. amp to power the front and sub and using the HU to power the rear (mostly HUs with 3 preouts allow you to do that).
thanks navin, but will the alpine f250 amp be powerful enough to power the front speakers and the sub (havent decided on any particular model sub yet!!!!, thats the next question. which sub??) or should i go in for a more powerful amp??

F250:
RMS Power (at 14.4V THD+N, 20Hz-20kHz)
- Per channel into 4 ohms: 40W x 4 (0.08% THD)
- Per channel into 2 ohms: 75W x 4
- Brigded 4 ohms: 180W x 2
6200F:
Bridgeable 4-channel capability
Continuous output power: 4 x 60 W or 2 x 150 W (4 Ω) 4 x 75 W (2 Ω)
So, looks like 6200F is more powerful. Alpines are supposed to be SQ thingies.
Try teh F450 if you can afford.
Go for both alpine amplifiers if u can afford. But cheaper slolution will be 5-ch alpine MRV450
And alpine 250 will be powerful enough for ur speakers.

I think the VW Golf takes 4' speakers in all 4 doors. (Atleast the one I installed did!)
I think for most reasonable 4 inchers, 40 W should be adequate power especially since they won't be running sub bass. And an Alpine should sound tonally better than the Pioneer.
Thats a shame that it can take only 4 inchers.
yes the old golf takes only 4inches, ur right. he's got the gto426 in the front with the gto936 6x9's in the rear. the alpine MRV-F450 looks good.
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-2Lcpjyn...p?I=500MRVF450 Details: » 5-channel car amplifier
» 50 watts RMS x 4 + 200 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms
» 60 watts RMS x 4 at 2 ohms + 200 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms
» 120 watts RMS x 2 + 200 watts RMS x 1 in bridged mode
» 2-, 3-, 4-, or 5-channel output
right now no plans of sub, so is it better to connect amp to all 4 speakers or just the front speakers and leave the 6x9s to just act as a rear fill??
Power all when u can. You can add the sub later and bridge the amp for the sub.
