the 9857 does not have TA? I did not know that. What is Alpine thinking! I would think they would have retained TA.

TA seems to be vanishing out of lot of HU's now.

In Alpine's current range its almost gone, maybe they are trying to sell their external processors to customers who wants TA  .

In Clarion also TA is absent in their current 2006 range and also earlier the TA only used to work in their HU's in active mode.

Only Pioneer is sticking to TA and Kenwood also had in their one and only Anniversary Edition.

Though TA is not of that much of help when used in passive system but still you can time align the subs with the front stage atleast to get the front stage bass integration.

Yup.... If one does not pick up a 9855 soon(before they all get sold out - 2005 model) then one will have to kiss TA goodbye.... Unless of course one want to put down the extra $$$ to buy the processor.. or their high end DVD players or the F1s!!

How can they not have TA ?? Crazy fools... ok whats TA ;) hehe

Yeah, very sad. Also the 9851 and the 9853 when introduced in 2005 didn't have the hi-volt pre-outs like the 9831 and 9833.

When you say TA is not useful in a passive system, do you say that since you can't adjust independently for your mid and high-frequency drivers?

Yes B&T you are right you cannot delay the individual driver hence it is not as effective. The best you can do is bringing the left & right speakers in the same time domain by delaying one in respect to the other. And then use the position selector to choose the orientation of the location to shift the stage wherever needed.

To get the best out of TA the system has to be active.

What do hpf and ta mean ???

HPF = High Pass Filter, it cuts / attenuates the below the value selected. Eg HPF at 80Hz means the frequency below 80 Hz will be attenuated. The attenuation depends on the slope of the crossover. Used for speakers, tweeters, subwoofers (Subsonic filter)

LPF = Low Pass Filter, it cuts / attenuates the above the value selected. Eg LPF at 80Hz means the frequency above 80 Hz will be attenuated. The attenuation depends on the slope of the crossover.Used in midranges, subwoofers.

BPF = Band Pass Filter, combination of HPF and LPF it cuts / attenuates the above and below the values selected. Eg in case of subwoofer HPF at 20Hz and LPF at 80Hz means the frequency below 20Hz and above 80 Hz will be attenuated. The subwoofer will play frequencies from 20Hz to 80Hz.

TA meands Time Alignment of speakers. It is used to delay the speakers which are nearer in respect to farther speakers so that the sound from both the speakers arrive you at the same time. Results in better sound, imaging, sounstage.

I hope its not too techy :)

JB you forgot the APF which is an All Pass Filter! :-)

Navinji,a dealer here has helix components ,is this brand worth giving a listen?

why not. I heat Helix is being distributed by the same guy who does Pheonix Gold and a few other reputed brands. I have not heard Helix but have been promsed a listen soon. Actullay the fault is mine for not havig the time.

thanx sir, please give us a feedback after u listen .

Helix amps are decent, speakers I did not feel were upto the mark, can get much better Pioneers in same or rather less price range, the subs were not helix in the setup, so could evaluate the amps only, Subs no Idea yet.

The setup must be very badly set-up. lol. Helix speakers are damn decent and there is no comparison with Pioneer speakers whatsoever. The sub was ok (I have only heard an enclosed sub).

Yup... We have tested Helix amps and speakers. While the amps look nice, and work well, they didnt perform as well as we would like for that price point. Their budget 'Dark Blue' series was very dissapointing.

Speakers are decent. We still have a couple of new comp pairs lying around that we used for listening tests.

the Dark Blue amps, speakers etc are all sourced from Korea. In fact in Singapore they are available with different looks and packaging under a brand called Performance Tek or something. The guy who used to be their distributor found out who used to manufacture them in Korea and started his own brand...
