This involves using a spacer ring (to accomodate the 6" speakers) and minor surgery to the map pockets - there's an inner ridge that needs to be drilled out. Once done and if done well, there is no outward indication of a change.

SAM does the Boston overshadow Infinities?

I have a pioneer 78xx HU, 1 sony 444 amp and 1 set of xplod speakers up front, 1 blau 10" bass tube. All bought 5 years back before I knew Sam, Navin and the rest of team-bhp. And another Blau baby amp from my Uno which is pretty old but sounds good to me.
I want the same setup - HU, front speakers and Sub. I dont want a rear fill at this point of time. I would rather spend the money on a better set of front speakers.
Right now I am planning to upgrade the front speakers alone. I want something that will play whatever I throw at it. I am not looking for audiophile quality here. (Did I tell you I am partially deaf :p ) So just some "jack of all trades" would suffice.
After a month or two, I am planning to replace the bass tube with some other sub that plays tight bass. I am not in for the bass tube's kinda bass. Its too boomy for my tastes.
So what I have planned is like this
Pio or Alpine HU
sony 444 amp bridged and driving front components or coaxials
blau mpa 2 bridged ( i think its 80*2 dont know about this ohms thingy) to run a sub
Budget for front speakers 7k
So what speakers do you think would suit me?
Phew! That was loooong. Hope I didnt get things confused in between. |
Hello Harrie,
Let's tackle this one step at a time. You definitely need a nice set of components in the front. I do not know what car you have, but if you are gonna cut/add a ring and fit components, then go in for a nice souding component set, preferable 6", unless your stock location only allows a 5.25".
Dump the Xplod speakers in a big hurry. If tube bass is not your thing, go in for a sealed box. Your blau amp, though nice, may nothave enough juice to drive this or any other woofer and this may be the reason you don't like the bass too much.
Running a nice set of components off a 444 will make it a wee bit grainy, but that's ok for now. Since you are partially deaf :D
Me, I would take that blau amp and run components off it and buy myself a nice mono amp to run the subwoofer, if i had the budget.

Ummm.... Let me try to word this without breaking the rules. No brand overshadows another, they all have different sounds.
That said, Infinity stands as one the most most widely respected higher quality car speakers. Worldwide, Infinity is a larger brand and sells more speakers.
As Navin has often mentioned, the combination of Alpine and Infinity is often preferred to all others.

I would recommened ICEers check out the other car audio forums just to keep abreast of the latest products and to get inspired by some of the installs there.

What is the model of the blau amp. I hope it is from the velocity series. if so use that to run the front components, not the Sony.
For 7K you can get components from Alpine, Infinity, and others. I'd rather you listen and learn than follow the advice of some "guru". Good brands include Focal, Morel, Boston, etc..Many brands like Hertz have 4-5 different lines of speakers covering different tastes/budgets.
Congratulations Sam for post No 4000.
And yes, I am 'Infinitely' happy. No doubt about it.

SAM, mate keep those lighting messages coming in....
PUMP UP THE VOLUME....
guys, if you had a choice to choose a 12" sub between a JBL or BOSTON, which one would you choose?????
Its a matter of choice my friend. No brand is better than the other. Unless you are buying a Dhoom Woofer.

Depends... What JBL 12"... Which Boston 12 "
A friend has just installed a Boston sub (g5 I think) in his santro with a ported box and it sounded pretty good to me, at the same time I know someone who has some older boston subs which personally I didnt like.
Its all a matter of your ears doing the deciding !
