just take 2 220ufd caps (electrolytic) and solder them back to back. that means 2 +ve leads soldered to each other.

now you shold have a double cap looking like a siamesse twin. get a good (CTR/DEC) 1ufd poly cap and solder the 2 leads of the poly cap to the 2 free leads of the siameese twin cap.

if you still find too much bass try the same usiing 470uf caps as the siameese twin.

once this is dont srap the whole thing in electrical tape, or if you are comfortable with a soldering iron, heat-shrink.

hi naveen thanks for explaning.

is ur 426 conn. directly to hu or through an amp.

All my JBL speakers GTO426 at front and GTO 606 at rear on a mdf tray are powered by a Pio amp.

I have not done anything about it. So the hiss remains. Will update you guys as soon as I do something.

Meanwhile, the rear left 936 has began to give out some funny sound. Some thing like a paper tearing or crr-crr distortion-like sound. What the hell is this now? Will need to check the connections i suppose.

i guess even i have the same problem vivek..JB suggested to invert the speaker and clean it with compressed air..even i havent tried it yet..maybe after the drag..
PS: btw vivek are you covering the drag..

Would love to come for the drag. I hope it does not clash with another assignment I have. I will be going to Thrissur in Kerala from Dec 11 to 19.

PS: my cars participating too,but not expecting much..just giving it a try and v1p3r will be driving it as i have some issues with my license..hopefully it will do well(not the beater types though)..doing this run just for the experience so that next year im well prepared to spring a BIG surprise..

Details details....... where can it be done???? I have changed two pairs of speakers courtesy this sound and now the 936e has also started showing these symptoms.

Guys since this problem seems common enough, let me elaborate on what may be happening here:

In component speakers, you have a dust cap which as the name suggests protects the speakers internals from dust etc. It can look like this.

Here is a cross section of a speaker.

In coaxial speakers, the stalk on which your high frequency drivers are mounted (mid and tweet in a 3way coax) is projected from the center of the bass cone, where the speaker's sensitive internals are. It looks like this...

Over time, due to the dusty environment in our country, dust accumalates on the cone and when the cone moves, a lot of this dust slides down into the voice coil internals. Presence of moisture adds to the problem and the cause the fine dust particles to form larger particles. Thus the crr crr sound.

Like Jb said, turn the speaker upside down. And if you can, try to clean out the internals with compressed air (like your friendly neighbourhood tyre hawa wala). This should fix it...

Gunbir.........can baffles prevent this phenomenon?

Thanks a lot for the info gunbir!!
Won't the high pressure of the air damage the speaker? Curious as I want to give it a shot ASAP!

agree: thats exactly what i was thinking.if done in the incoorect manner it may damadge the speaker.

by the way is this sound really noticible ?? is it noticible at only high volumes or also at low volumes ? as i dont really think its happened in my car yet but ill check it out asap.

Nopes... not really loud but you'll notice it more when the music has sudden ups and downs... pieces where bass sudden kicks in and stuff like that. I also noticed it for pieces that have extended low frequency sounds.. dunno about vivek.

ok there is this slight cracking sound when i change tracks at high volumes or when i reduce the volume drastically from high to low.any idea what that could be ??

Well I should have been more precise...

a. try inverting the speaker, shaking it a bit. if this alone fixes your problem... great!!

b. If the above doesnt work, THEN you can use the compressed air method. Be careful not to apply the air to the midrange or tweeter. Yes, these could be damaged by the high air pressure. Our purpose is only to blow air into the area around the center stalk so that we can dislodge dirt and blow it out. Remember to do this with the speaker turned upside down.

one safe method is to try injecting the air into the pole vent (on the magnet side of the speaker).
