The problem with Alpines is that they have always 2 different illuminations.
The main 4 buttons will have multicolor switchable LEDs and the rest will always be something else. No uniform lighting possibilities.

@MaxBHP, it's not worth digging out those LEDs and fitting in different ones. It's an Alpine and it's not the very easy ones to tinker. It should be very much difficult to do such a job on your HU.

For information, The Alpine 9855s have been discontinued and stocks recalled due to some common problem.

It was a common HU and used to sell nicely. Nice decision from Alpine.

Zak, is that due to the slide control?

Not sure about this. But that was one of the major problems it had.
They've relaunched an improved glide touch in their DVD HUs.

From what I know if you used an external amp and powered off the internal amp of the 9855 it worked fine. still that is a bad enough bug.

Ok guys, I am planning to upgrade ICE in our 1998 Opel Astra.
HU will be a Sony 5510 from my current setup in Corsa ( planning to put in Alpine there ;) )
Please tell me which speakers fit into stock locations at front and rear in the same.
Preferred brands : JBL.

From what you've mentioned, there isn't much choices.
You want speakers that fit in OE locations without any modifications. Right? And your prefered brand is JBL. Right?

That leaves with one good option. Walk into a JBL showroom and choose what fits in to your OE locations. Simple!! ;)

Or PM Sam Kapasi for more details about speakers and JBL Authorised dealer.

Mugen.

aah... posted that in hurry.
Preferred brands : JBL, Hertz or similar ( no Pio or Sony )

PMing sam right away.

Another question that i have: Which basic model from Alpine has the V-link feature ( which allows connecting any mp3 player to it ) ??
Or to put it into simple language, suggest me HU from Alpine which supports line in from other mp3 player. My budget : 15k
:P

Call Bharat car accessories to choose your speakers. 020-32948591.

hkanitkar,

You can buy the cable which will convert aux out of alpine's Ai-net to RCA in. and get any RC wire to 3.5 mm to connect your mp3 player.

I just picked up one for pioneer HU in Singapore for S$ 25.

PS: Navinji, i have a few random ICE setup pics from spore. Pretty nice setups. Wondering where i could post them.

Maybe we should start a install pics thread where all random install pics (not related to specific threads) should go? Something like that would make a good sticky.

No hydra, I dont agree. it would be maddeningly confusing, all installs in one thread. I guess we can start a thread if it's a good install.

MeaNwhile, vid baba, please do post them right here if you like.

1. The Astra door needs a slim 6" speaker there is very little room for a JBL 607 for example. So open the Astra door and measure the depth you have and then consider JBL, Alpine, and a few others maybe even Pioneer given the space you have.

2. The Astra also has room for small component tweeters in the rear mirror pods. The small Blaupunkt tweeter fits well here. You'd need custom XO to mate this tweeter to an Alpine or Pioneer midbass in the door but it canbe done.

3. For the rear you can use either a 6" coax or if you want to do some metal cutting a pair of 6x9.

For ultra slim speakers (if you are really pressed for space, and don't want to use a spacer), try the TX series or OD series from Blaupunkt. The installation depth is only 45-46mm for the 6" speakers.

I don't think they have components in these series though. Only co-axials.

well even if they have coaxials one can disable the tweeter and use an external tweeter.
