Thanks, DerAlte. I will keep this in mind and check it out. But, please, can you elaborate a little more on the red-wire? Because with the key off, the HU does not turn (power) on. But the user manual warning says, if not wired correctly it will result in battery drain.

As regards other appliances being on, this is a very remote possibility. Except for the cabin light and central locking, all other appliances get switched off when the key is removed from the Palio. I rarely use the cabin light, and it is always returned off position. Don't have any security system etc. installed.....

If with the key off power is not remaining on in your HU, everything should be just fine. IMHO the warning in the manual is a general warning. It is a bit illogical too - if you reverse the wires, i.e. red going to 'constant power' and yellow going to ACC signal, some settings will get reset on every power cycling (switch off-on). There will be no current drawn if the key is off (no power coming to HU at all) - no matter whether the ACC signal (in this case directly battery = high, since the yellow wire is connected to it) is high or low.

Car Audio Help

Hi, I would like to upgrade the ICE for my Hyundai Accent. I had installed this setup, quite some time back. Around the year 2007. I do not want to have major spending to do this, because, I have plans for higher studies.

I had given the car for service a while back, and when it was back, the service guys at Hyundai had screwed something in the speakr circuit I guess. It now givs a jarring effect after volume 15. I would like to know what could be the possible reasons. I could get this entire thing fixed, while I am going for the upgrade.

Here is what I have as of now.
HU: Alpine 9870CDE (Audio/mp3/etc.) - Find it clear enough
Front: Alpine 5inch(not sure) coaxial speakers, in the door panels.
Back: Sony Explod, 6.5 Inch speakers.

to be:
* Budget not more then 15K. (Includes amplifier, woofer, wiring, etc)
* I prefer crystal clear sound quality over loudness
* I would like to know if its possible to have an Ipod connectivity (Aux in) to the Alpine. Hear they have some special cables for this, from Alpine. If there are, where can I get them in Chennai ?
* I am curious to know how I could get the woofer boom outside the car. I hear them at parties, and was wondering how to get them.

Hope, you guys can help me out.

15K hmm..

See if you can live with this...dump the Xplods

Get 6" components for the front from say JBL GT5 etc.. 6K
Add a 4ch. amp from Pioneer (6400), JBL (644), etc..6K
Move the 5" Alpine to the rear.

Now to add a subwoofer you should budget 6-7K for a 10-12" sub. The same amp (listed above) can be used for the sub (only thing is that you will be fading in the rear speakers and sub together) while the HU then will drive the rear speakers.

To add an ipod to the 9870 you need a KCA-422i cable (Alpine Electronics of America, Inc.).

Perfect for the purpose. For party effect, he just has to Fade completely to the rear! Just open the rear windows a tad, and go Boooooom shaka laka. When parents are in the car, or you need peaceful listening, Fade to front more.

Usually, the iPod interfaces are compatible with iPhone. If you want to be sure, borrow someone's iPhone and try before buying an iPhone (if you don't have one).

Mnay ipod interfaces will allow music to be played form the iPhone but will NOT charge the iPhone (or even later 6th gen Nanos). You can buy a Scoche Passport for the purpose though.

But the boot space advantage is a strong consideration.

Ok, now here are few pieces that I have got quotes for. These are by and large finalized since all are well known tried and tested models/brands except the head unit. The prices quoted are as below:

JVC KD R616 : Rs 7700
Components JBL 265c: Rs. 4200
Ovals JBL GTO 948: Rs. 3750
Amp JBL GT5 644: Rs. 6250
Scoche Wiring: Rs. 1400
RCA cable (unknown): Rs. 300
Plank/Box and Spacer Rings MDF: 1300
Labour charges: Rs. 450

All the above quoted prices are with bill and warranty.

Would like to know if the prices mentioned are competitive? What things do I keep in mind to make sure the above items are genuine (inspite of getting B/W) ?

I have created another thread on the head unit also.

The prices are fair give or take a hundred here or there.

Thanks Navin, will wait for review/opinions on JVC head unit and go ahead with the configuration with either Pio or JVC or Kenwood (Blau is not available with this vendor)

Shrikar, great choice of equipment. I have the same amp and components.
HPF the front components @ 70hz with 24 db slope. Best result!
For rear speakers, HPF 80-100 Hz
For subwoofer, use LPF ~80Hz.

Thanks Lord,

Will try out the settings on my way to office. I do plan to shift to a nice 5 channel amp ( if budget permits a Genesis profile 5 or 2 denon amps if i ever get my hands on them). Will replace the stock door speakers in the rear to DLS classic 626 co-axials. Will probably need to upgrade my wiring kit also and go for minor dampening.

After listening to DLS, I doubt any other brand suits my ears. Had bull components earlier but these seem to hold the stage much heavier and deeper.

Thanks for the info though!
Regards

Guru's, can Jazz's OE music system be replaced with aftermarket HU ? Has anybody tried it before ? Like for civic, are there any aftermarket panels available which would aid this experiment ?
