steering mounted controls in the i20

Hi
I have been pretty disappointed at not being able to use the steering mounted controls in an i20 to browse through folders. While i understand that there is a bit of risk involved in taking your eyes off while reading folder names, it is better than looking up the folder up/down button while driving. Please, can anyone advise me on how I can browse through folders using the steering mounted controls in an i20?

Many Thanks
Prasad

Prasad,
The Steering controls are more of utility than functional. So apart from the volume up/down and mute/pause, I dont think you can do much with the same.

Don't know about the system on i20, but I create a playlist for driving and only move through it using my Pio CR-100. Whatever may be the reason, never take your eyes off the road - it can land you in serious trouble within milliseconds. Check out the post below,

I think this is good, correct advice given. THanks. I will always keep that in mind. Experiences of both HS and mobike008 have shaken me up. I hope and pray that HS comes out of this misery unscathed.

i20 magna - Need Steering audio controls -is it possible?

Dear all
I am missing the Steering audio controls in my magna 2010 April model. Magna model have a built in audio system, but no audio controls on steering. Non Availability of 'i20 Sportz' model made me buying this Magna model at that time .

I have few queries
1. What is the brand of inbuilt audio installed in i20? (mobil/Kenwood)
2. Is it possible to sync external remote with the audio (Steering mounted external remote)
3. Is it possible to remove the existing and fix the steering wheel of I20 soprtz ?
4. what is the price for the same ?

Any help will be appreciated !
Thanks in advance

Heard from the SA that the speakers are of kenwood.Yes you can get the steering mounted audio controls. You have to change the whole steering wheel ,the connectors are just plug and play .Ask your nearest service center for the cost

1. I20 sportz steering wheel also has a Airbag built in.
2. As a result it will be costly to replace it with sportz steering
3. Your car does not have the Airbag sensor & related electronics. So even if you fit the sportz steering it could result in a malfunctioning Airbag which could turn risky for your life.
4. Better to go with an aftermarket remote control if possible

There are remote controls available which could be mounted on steering wheel.
Available from many known brands - Pioneer, JVC etc.

There are universal ones also in market, which could work for i20 ICE.

I am using one (Pioneer) and it is very convinient.

Cost may be around 1000 Rs.

In my opinion, much easier alternative to steering wheel replacement etc.

Thank you JLS for the Advice
Really, I droped the plan to upgrade the Steering wheel. I have got reply from another dealer, that it will be very expensive to replace the steering and the wiring kit.BTW,are you using i20 ?

AFAIK,external Steering mounted controls are working with remote sense technology(Infra red). Builtin HU in i20 does not come with a remote control. So,external Steering mounted controls may not work with this.

Mods: Since, solution for my problem has been found,Please close the thread !!

Hi Antonian,
Its a shame, i20 HU does not even have remote control.

I have fitted Pioneer 3090 in my Accent, and using steering remote control.
By the way what is the solution you found for your problem?

Regards,

JLS
