ICE for Fiesta 1.6S- Help Needed

Hi Gurus, I am picking up a Fiesta 1.6 S next week. The stock ICE is decent but I have this itch to upgrade. My budget is 20-25K. I am planning to get component speakers, 4 channel amp and a sub. I plan to run them via the stock HU as I am expecting to get a 2 DIN HU from the US in the near future. No rear fills.

I went to an installer in my neighborhood and he has given me 2 options in my budget range.

Option 1

Components: JBL GTO 608C- 4900/-
Sub Woofer: JBL CS 1215: 3500/-
4 ch amp: JBL GT5 S644- 6200/-
Amp wiring kit: 2400/- (not sure which brand. Thought he said JBL. Does JBL make wiring kits?)
Sealed sub box: 1500/-
RC: 350/-
Spacer: 200/-
Labor: 850/-
Total: 19,900/-

Option 2

Replace JBL components and sub with Polk. Retain JBL amp and the rest.

Components: Polk SR 6501- 8500/-
Sub: Polk: 5200/-
Total: 25,200/-

I am looking for a price check for the above mentioned items and also some recommendations. I heard both the components and I thought Polk sounded a little richer. Could not audition the subs. I am looking for some laid back mid and highs and a tight bass. I will not be blasing music at any point in time. I mostly listen to rock/metal acts like Led Zep, Deep Purple and Maiden. Sometimes when I am in a weird mood I listen to pop and techno.

Please help me decide between these two options or please suggest alternatives within this budget. I am looking for a VFM set up. Dont have much left after plonking down nearly 8 lacs on the car. I dont want to blindly go in for the Polk set up just because it is more expensive. Pros and cons would help. Thanks.

Wont the JBLs or regular 6.5incher need additional spacers or so as Ford Fiesta speakers at front are 5x7.

Also, I would suggest a fast sub in sealed box if you like Metal/Pop etc.Get a good four channel or just a mono amp for sub. The location of front speaker helps good imaging when you compare it with other cars.

My two cents...why dont you consider having a 6*9 coax in the rear and doing away with the sub...??

wouldn't that be a practical thing to do to save some boot space..??

Vinayak

The Great Shajufx's ICE

Copied from Shajufx's thread,

AMP --> Blaupunkt THA 475 PnP = 10k
SUb --> Rockford Fosgate P1S412 = 5.5k
Comps -->Hertz ESK 570 Compos = 6.5k

Blaupunkt PnP fiesta wiring kit = 700
Subwoofer Box = 1200
Wires & Labour = 1000

So it totals to 24900/-.

Good thing is Hertz Comps are of 5X7 so no need of spacer.

I guess for time being we can use the stock rear speakers.

Yes, 6.5 inch comps would require spacers. I have included the cost of the spacers above. Any recommendation for a fast sub?

No one will be sitting in the back seat, so no point putting in ovals there. I would rather have a sub in the boot to get some good bass.

The shop I went to today did not have Hertz 5X7 or any other 5X7 comps. Apparently this size is hard to get. JBL and Polk comps sounded really good. Stock rears are some chinese junk. Not worth retaining them.

If you liked the sound of the Polk components, go for it!
For the sub, I'd recommend Blaupunkt over JBL. Its a great SQ sub. The 12 incher GTw1200 costs 2.7k with B&W. Install it in a sealed box 1-1.2 cu ft and you'll surely like the sound!

The prices you have mentioned are quite reasonable. Try 2-3 other places and compare the prices yourself.

DO NOT go for the CS sub, if you can find a new GTO 1214 sub that would be the best otherwise opt for a Polk 1240 - 5.8K (Goes really low but not as loud as the GTO 1214)
Ground Zero 4100 (4ch) - 11K
Stick to the JBL 608C. They are good compos but do not strain them too much.
Yes JBL does make wiring kits.
The JBL compos are a bit brighter but you will be quite happy with them.

ruchirtnt, I have decided to hold on to my stock ICE for a while now. When I do decide to upgrade, it will be a big one. Are you planning to upgrade right away?
