ICE upgrade for Corolla 04

I have a budget of 20k (25k pushed)

what can I do that would be the best bang for buck for my corolla's ICE ?

I need the HU to have USB.

I actually like the factory speakers provided, because some of my friends who have Blaupunkt, pioneer .. etc speakers tend to produce a lot of high frequency ( shrill ) sounds during the same track, which give me a serious headache and am sensitive towards that.
All it lacks is a good base level (according to me).

kindly suggest.
I would prefer to buy speakers/sub ( if needed ) in grey to save money.. to get a better HU.
thanks.

If you are looking for a laid back sound Consider this...
Kenwood HU about 7K with USB
Alpine, Infinity or Illusion Speakers about 12K for 2 6" components (front) and 2 6x9 coax (rear) (if using Illusion components you might need to get GZ 6x9s)
Piooner 6300, Kenwood 8404, JBL GT5 amp for about 6K
Wire and Install 3K
------------
7+12+6+3 = 28K!

ooops sorry we pushed your budget a bit. :-(

Some brands like JBL, Blaupunkt, Polk etc..have a brighter tonal character than others like Infinity, Alpine, etc...so listen to a few brands.

Also for about 3K more you can replace the 6x9s with a 10-12" subwoofer from say JBL in a sleaed box in the trunk. The rear speakers can be stock and powered by the HU while the amp will power the front components and subwoofer.

Thanks, can you suggest a HU (model) ?
Is it the HU that decides the sound tone or the speakers ?

Oh mama, models and prices I am very poor at.

No most speakers have their own signature. Amplifers and Head units too. With a bit of tuning you can alter this "signature" a bit.

Navin, Illusions have the worst Quality Control process on Earth. The Crossover I first got had a damaged Battery connection (Condenser?) and B&T was kind to immediately arrange for a new one (Nice Guy). Last week one of the mid-basses stopped working, diagnosis revealed that the Battery broke on its own.

in that case, can anyone suggest a complete set ( HU + speakers + sub + amp ) which would have damped shrillness .

What company makes paper cone speakers ?

HU: Kenwood 543 ~ 5k / 643 ~ 6.5 K(with bill)
Speakers: Bull Audio ~6-6.5k(with bill) / Hertz ESK - ~7-8k(with bill)
Wiring: Depending upon budget. Kits start from 1k
Amp: Blaupunkt MKII ~ 5k(grey) / Kenwood 845 ~ 6.5k(with bill) / JBL S644 ~ 6k(with bill)
Sub: JBL ~2.5-3k / Blaupunkt - ~3-4k

Both Hertz and Bull have paper cone speakers and you are most likely to prefer their sound as they r not shrilled / bright and have tweeter attenuation level.

I find Hertz to be quite bright. Yes, I have JBLs, but I keep Treble on my HU at -4, if not lower.

New ones or OLD ones ? The new ones come with a 3 level attenuation.

-3, 0, +3

At -3 i would not call them bright...

Navin Sir, they sound fantastic compared to my old 4" Sony speakers. There is no issue with the Sound atleast for me. The battery in the Crossover, not the Midbass.

I found the Hertz Hi Energy to be bright. JBL GTO too. GT5 is a little less bright. Infinity less so.

Looks like an explanation from a roadside installer (battery in XO is dead), who even doesn't know what components are.
