ICE'd A STAR

Well, its got a sweet engine and handles well at high speeds. It is priced fine for what its worth for. Its comes with power steering ( which is pretty light even at high speeds; read bad), power windows, cd/mp3 player with aux in and lot which had nice thump. err, just thump !

I am talking about Suzuki A-Star, a car I got to drive for 400plus kilometers in a day! Why? I was to take it and its owner, Sankar to Cochin to ICE it.

We were on a S T R I C T budget! Strict as in, dude ! stay there, %^there not an inch forward!

What should it cost in total ? 30k Max

What did we have? A HU and a 4 Channel amp.

What did these cost? 130 + 130 dollars ; almost.

What we wanted ? VFM compos at front and coax at rear door; no cutting!

What we want in future? A 8/10 inch sub; powered by a mono!

What all we got ?

Clarion
HU
Clarion 4 Channel Amplifier
Auditor
Components
Auditor Co-axial
Stinger
RCAs
Cadence
power cable & fuse
Noise Kill
Executed @ Galaxy Cochin

End result? Great ICE for a budget, no bull !
I got pix, lots as usual. Will update by tomorrow.

Yes it does sound good, better than i thought it would, especially after i read about someone's Auditor experience here.

Many thanks to Jk for taking the car & me there, driving all the way to Cochin & back, i didn't want to drive this time, i was getting back on to the highway after a long long gap. So just wanted to sit and watch.

Pics would follow, i hope the DVD works this time

Congratulations on the ICE install Sankar, i've been wanting to upgrade my ICE too, i have a VXi and so am retaining the HU.
I have used a parcel shelf for the rear Co Axials

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/ask-gu...-star-lxi.html

Do put up pics Sankar/ JKDas especially of the front components. Even i am not keen on mounting them to the front door without any cutting. You have quoted the price in dollars. Are these available in India?

Looking forward to the pics

slicvic, stock HU is okay and I'm sure with decent speakers it would sound good. Stock setup sounds muddy and vocals are not very clear. Mine is a VXi too, I decided to go for an Clarion HU since I have upgrade plans in the future.

Cutting is not required to install 6.5" speakers in the doors! But they did cut the door pad to mount the tweeter, cutting is not required if its mounted elsewhere though.

Clarion is not very well supported in India. But it must be available and the prices I'm not sure of.

I was wondering if the Auditor range is available in India, and their pricing. If they fit in the stock speaker locations (in the door) even i'll go in for them since they've been tried and tested in your car

What 6.5's are on your car clarion or auditor?

I had saved up to buy an amplifier and components, but splurged it on a Roadking. Have to wait for a bit now

Yes tweeter pics are there, he will post it or wait till i get home.
No i didn't have any problems as such with the volume control knob.
One of the biggest downers of the stock HU is that it doesn't play USB flash drives. It matters when music collection spans a few GBytes. It can however play/control iPod but that will need a separate module which is sold extra.

Stupendous install guys! Lovely workmanship there.
For a second, I thought it was my Alto's door in the damping pics.

The choice of equipment is great as well.

@Sankar
Congrats for the ICE setup!
Allow the speakers to run-in for 20-30 hours at moderate volume and they'll sound even better.

Looking forward to the Sub upgrade!

Congrats. Looks cool.

I'm almost a noob, but what was the purpose of the relay ? Isn't it used to prevent current from flowing in the opposite direction ?

EDIT : Alright, it's not used to prevent current from flowing in the reverse direction. So what's it's purpose ? Whatever Wikipedia had went over my head....

Thanks anku94.
Relay is for the headlamps. Relay is a switch basically, relay uses low current circuit to switch ON/OFF a high current circuit to power up the headlamps (or any other device) directly from the battery.
