Alpine 9887 CD Load Error - Need an Authorised Service Center in Chennai?

Folks,

The most unexpected thing happened to me!

I had bought a brand new Alpine 9887 from US. I got it installed in my car and to my shock its giving a CD read error. I get this message 'Error' on the display when I load a CD & the eject button doesn't work as well, in this case the CD is stuck inside in a weird position. A possible issue with the CD load/unload mechanism according to the manual. Now I have the following questions.

1. Is this a minor/major problem? Should I keep this HU or fix the problem & then try to sell it off?
2. Any chance of availing international warranty?
3. I am unable to find the A.S.S for Alpine in Chennai. Any pointers for the same?

Need help on these folks & thanks in advance!

Where in the US did you buy it from? You could try return it if you or a friend are travelling to the US again.

Get it checked with a local guy in your area. If its something simple then fix it - should work fine afterwards.

Bought it from Amazon! Its been nearly 3 months since I bought it & it did reach me only by last week. The choice of returning the same may not be possible!

Mount Electronics, Triplicane is the authorised service centre for Chennai. Will try to find out the phone numbers/address etc and let you know about the warranty possibility as well.

^^ Thanks

I found their contact details on google and I spoke to them. They are unsure about the Warranty information for the same & I am expected to provide the bills. I am going there tomorrow to get it checked.

The CD load issue is it a minor problem and it can permanently rectified?

It can be permanently rectified if the motor mechanism is replaced. I have never heard of an issue like this on a brand new product. Maybe it was damaged in transit. Bad luck.

A few of the Alpine-9881 had this problem which I could find over the internet. But, this is the first time for the 9887. Tough luck, seriously!

I want to get the CD mechanism replaced if that is at fault. I think the warranty chances will be against my luck as well! The CD mechanism costs 15$ by parts cost.

Keeping my fingers crossed on getting this repaired, this is an excellent audio system and I want to retain it!

If the problem is purely mechanical, it should be easy to fix with the right parts. You should retain the HU.

It looks to me like the board and display are okay since it was able to display an error message. A simple mechanical part must have got dislodged during transit. Have you given it for service yet?

I couldn't go to the service center today. I think I would be giving it for service by next week.

Looks like a mechanical fault to me, it integrates well with my iPod touch!

I couldn't take the player to Alpine over the weekend! My cousin has taken my car fitted with the HU to Bangalore. I will update over the coming weekend when I get my car back.

I noticed another issue in the HU. When 'MultiEQ' is ON, there is no option to do the basic tuning of adjusting the Bass/Treble levels. To disable 'MultiEQ', I have to press the 'MultiEQ' button on the HU for 2 seconds. But, I am unable to disable the 'MultiEQ' when I press and hold the button for 2 seconds.

Looks like I am stuck with a lemon
