As usual the new lineup of Pioneers came out hence had to give it a shot playing one on a basic setup in a small car.
So the product in contention was the Pioneer 2390UB, with official 2 years warranty.
The build quality looks like some local brand like Dapic or worse, Sound quality was so horrible that I actually started feeling bad for the brand name.
We have seen a steady decline in product quality is the last few years from them, but this just takes the cake, and I used to think the 2290UB was very average.
The higher series products have not come out yet, and I hope they have not gone down the drain like the basic line up.
Blueraven, i really feel sad. I found 5250/90 to be one of the best entry level HUs but with your review on their 2011 lineup, it might spell their doom. With JBL comming with their 333/555 series HUs, i feel entry level buffs would for sure migrate to JBL.
Any idea when Kenwood would show their 2011 lineup?
Really sad to see India's favorite "entry" level HU go down the drain on quality. I'm sure most of us started our ICE journey with Pioneer (a few with Sony too).
I have a question though - How come P80 from the same stable is so highly rated when the entry/basic/mid range is so poor?

There are a lot of Pioneer fakes being sold on JC road Bangalore.
Whats the exact sound quality issue that you found out?
Can comment much on the quality, without seeing it in flesh. From the pics it seems decent

Trust me I knew what I was doing, I have seen pioneer players like very few people on this forum would have.
This was an official peice with 2 years warranty and bill,
Basic pioneers are a load of crap this year, and they look nothing like the snaps I posted in real life in terms of build quality.
Sathya, i checked the Pioneer India website but cant find this model, is this from the new range of Pioneer HU's ?
If possible, can you please upload the catalog of the latest range ?
What are your views on the other range of Pioneer HU's?
I don't have a soft copy of the Catalog, and does not look like the pioneer guys have updated the website, but we will soon hear reviews of the new product from others, what I am curious about is what have they done to the higher models which have not released yet, I heard some pioneer sub stockists have the new 4390sd in stock, but I am not very keen to experiment with a client's car.
Time will tell.
Sathya, do you think there would be "new" models in their higher range like P80 and P99?
No I mean the higher range in India like the older models 5290SD and 7250SD.
Hope the 5390sd and 7350sd are still usable,
the 5290sd has a 5 band graphic eq where as the 5190SD had a 7 band graphic eq. So year after year things are going down hill.
The brand has been jinxed since it changed its logo. I know of a Pioneer dealer in Ahmedabad who did excellent business in the 90's and had to change dealership to Blaupunkt due to poor service, inferior quality, declining sales and serious competition from other recognized brands.
