Opel Vectra ICED

Hello Guys !!

The German name says it all that how crazy it would have been to ICE a 7 years old Opel vectra ( was being used by my dad earlier) , i never wanted to ICE this car cause i was very scared to play with iwiring layout and all & also being a baby audiophile i never wanted to leave my hatchback (getz, which is known as one of the best ICEING car ) for sedan.

Dad never wanted to loose the originality of this car , so it was a very hard time for me to figure out that how do i wire this car without cutting the original wires & also getting a dash kit from Europe was coming out to be very expensive !! . After discussing with some serious Audiophiles i decided to get genesis hi-lo convertor to be used with stock Philips headunit

I went to delhi got the Audison Speaker wires laid for convertor from Driven with help of sam & gunbir sir ..

Then i came back to chandigarh and something popped my brain , that why not make a custom dash kit out of MDF and i go with my old Kenwood x7016 head , but again for powering the head i was scared cause of cutting wires and all . I asked my installer whether he can power it that way , he toom out the stock head and said YES , he went inside the shop and got Skoda's connector which was by surprise a direct fit and headunit turned ON .. i was on cloud 9 at that time .

Then we sat and figured out about the dash kit , so after like 1 hr of discussion , we got old alto's steel cage for holding the head with a plastic pocket , the outer covering frame was made in MDF , so after 2-3 attempt the dash kit came out very well , though i have to get it painted by a good painter so that it matches well with rest of the interior plastic.

Now again ICE bug caught me and i wanted to upgrade , and upgrade was all of a sudden and it was big upgrade for me !!!

Got Genesis Series III Dual Mono Amp & replaced my kenwood 9104 d amp with 9105d amp ( i sold my 9104 mono to a friend thinking that i would get a better mono but i had delay it for 1 month ).

It took about 3 days to ICE , but it came out very well , i am very happy indeed that i have a good equipment without screwing my car !!

So the final equipment which has gone inside the car is

Head unit : X 7016
Fronts : Rainbow SAC 265 compos
Speaker cable : Audison flat clabes
Rca : Sommer + Neutrik plugs(THANKS LBM FOR GIVING ME THESE WIRES)
Woofer : IDMAX 12 D4
Amp for fronts : Genesis Dual MONO
Amp for Sub : Kenwood 9105 D
Damping : Noisekill for boot & melly mat for fronts

More about it later , please enjoy the pics and do comment

My special thanks to ABHIBH , GUNBIR , JASDEEP , THE LORD , MONTY ,CHAMAN (installer) ,SAM , SHRESTH , ANISH !!

Cheers

Re: Opel Vectra ICED

more about the install :

on day one (with my old 8404 amp ) the compos sounded real bad , so bad that i thought going back to stock setup , but abhibh told me that we need to play with rainbow cross x and set gains , so the next day he came over and he started to tune my compos and Voila the sound improved by 1000% percent !!!

And i forgot to mention in getz the rainbows were bi-amped and now they are running on 2 channel , but trust me it now sounds hell lot better even on 8404 amp .

Then for few days i just listened to my compos with 8404 amp , and kept waiting for my genny and 9105d mono ..

SO FINALLY MISS GENNY CAME :P .. quickly called abhibh who was accompanied by other audiophile The lord to tune my setup .

(9105d was purchased on the same day from installer's store)

So later that afternoon both the amps & IDMAX was installed & these 2 guys took over from there and it took about 1 hour to tune the setup right ..

man am left with no words about the sound in my ride .. it plays simply FANTASTIC after tuning !!

Re: Opel Vectra ICED

Chiragh Bir ji. It's a sin for us humans to audition your Vectra after the Genesis upgrade. We all have pledged not to listen to our systems for 1 week at-least after the surreal experience in your car.

What would you say when 4 guys auditioning a system to critique it get totally lost and immersed in the music. The track was 'Beat It' by the late MJ and all 4 of us (chiragh, abhi, shresth n yours truly) just listening to the music with eyes closed for the entirety of the song. Next track, Wild West End by Dire Straits and we all are looking at each other with a look of shock and awe! The Genesis Dual Mono had surpassed everybody's expectation. Heck, we had set the gains at less than 1/4th and we all were surprised by the sheer abundance of power, clean power!

Coming back to the install, hats off to chiragh and abhi for the innovative dash kit DIY. That thing looks dead stock and costs a fraction of a DIY fiber-glass kit. The damping for the doors has been very well done. Although, the parcel tray needs to be checked for some niggling noises because the iD Max will make it rattle even more once it breaks in. The Head Unit does what it does the best. A clean natural sound with ease of iPod and USB integration. The MAX goes low, kicks, punches hard... all within a fraction of time. Chiragh, keep the gains low for a few weeks. You'll be surprised on how better it'll get after run-in. The Rainbow SACs are the happiest of the lot getting the cleanest power possible from the Genesis Dual Mono. The tweeters are installed off-axis and boy do they sound good.

Here's a thumbs up to one of the finest car audio system I have auditioned.
It was a privilege to say the least!

Enjoy your music! And hire a driver because driving with such an ICE is illegal!
