Carry the following steps :

1. Switch ur amp crossover to LPF around 80Hz

2. Check that ur gains are not turned all the way up. If yes then turn them down to half

3. Switch off bass boost on the amp.

The 400W amplifer has no problem in handling the 800W woofer. In your case I guess its the MAX power of the both.

If this also does not help. Then tap the woofer cone in the centre snd see if it makes crackle (sound), if yes then your woofer has gone

not a problem. does the woofer work well at low volumes and then make noises only at higher volumes?

Yes Navin the woofer is working in low volumes without any issue. I am having bass boost nearly to 50% now.

are use useing too much bass boost on either the Amp or the HU? if not then I can only suspect that the suspension of the woofer has deteriorated and maybe you need a new woofer.

if you are using any bass boost on the amp or HU please set these to flat and then listen.

Thanks all for your suggestions.now i am able to get a better sound. But the same settings give different outputs for different CD's. I assume them as CD problems :)

Every recording engineer mixes CD they way they feel fit. The fact that you can distingush the differences means that you are listening. good work.

hi Navin..... one more question... my friends use the terms depth and punch associated with sub-woofers. what does these things mean?

msk, i dont think one can fully decribe these terms. It is best if you ask your friend to listen with you and explain to you during or after listening what is depth and punch and overhang and underdamped and overdamped etc...
