My Tiny Requires a New SQ Sub

Hey all,

I have an 800 with the following ICE setup

HU-Alpine CDE102E

Front-Coustic 6"compos

Amplifier-Pioneer GMXxxxx Premier Series Amp with Bridged Rms power of 120W @ 4ohms

Sub-MTX Thunder 12"

Now the problem.

The Sub was donated to me by my friend which i want to return since its been quite a while since I am using it and hes got a third car now so thought he might need it.

This is also a reason for me to UPGRADE to something even better.
I have a Budget of-6-7k

Requirements-Sub should be able to go Low as well as get tight and punchy like the current MTX thunder which I have. I want a SQ Sub and not SPL.I want a sub which can blend in my setup it should gel in with my compos and should not get over them.
I sometimes do like to go loud But not SPL loud.
So i would like to have a Sub which has good SQ as well as can go Loud.

Music I hear-HipHop, Trance, Slow Hindi classics and English, Little bit of Rock, A.R Rahman Songs.

Subs I am considering and I am also open to more options:-

1.Mutant 10"
2.Polk Audio DB series 8"
3.Hertz Dieci 10" or 12"

Appreciate the help.

If you can increase the budget by 1k u can get an iD CTX 12" for 8k. I have heard both POLK / Hertz and iD is anyday a better woofer than those. Also look at a few Blaupunkts / RF if you don't wanna spend 6-7k.

Also remember you will get a good box and connectors. Add 2k for these.

Re: My Tiny Requires a New SQ Sub

Actually I cant spend more than 6-7k as thats what my savings limit is.

For connectors i have Quick disconnect type connector from MX which I am currently using with my MTX sub.Planning to reuse that.

Most entry level 12" will work well in 1cuft box. The MX connector will work fine.

If i have to pick a sub from the mentioned list in your budget. I would pick Hertz. But do check out RF and Blau if you can.

You could check out the punch series from rockford, their 12" would be well within your budget. I don't know how it fares against the punch series but you could also check out the jbl gto1214 sub 12" size. It would set you back by about 5-5.5K.

Drive safe.

12" would be anyday better than a 10"; but thats purely a matter of taste.

Re: My Tiny Requires a New SQ Sub

My friend just bought a jbl cs1204b for Rs4500.It is connected to a sony amp(140W rms) and believe me the bass is kicking.
Anyway what was the Rms of the MTX sub you used and how was the bass? Was it to your liking.

Re: My Tiny Requires a New SQ Sub

jatin, a 12" would have better lower end response compared to its 10" variant.
I'd suggest you pick up the iD CTX for 8k. Haven't auditioned a better sub in that price bracket. Infinity Kappa 120.9 is another awesome sub but would cost on the greater side of 10k.

Blaupunkt GTw 1200 is another fine sub. Costs ~3.5 - 4k but it needs a slighter larger enclosure (1.2 cu ft) compared to an ID CTX (0.8-1cuft)

Re: My Tiny Requires a New SQ Sub

@fiesta

the MTX sub rms rating is 150-250W
The bass is nice tight n punchy and when required it can go loud too without any fuss.

@the lord
If i spend any more than the given budget my parents will surely throw me out of the house..
I also auditioned the iD loved it very much it fits by bill perfecto but the budget is constraint.
