The 2013 International Bus & Utility Vehicle Show, Noida

Quote:
Ashok Leyland, the Hinduja Group flagship, showcased the ‘Janbus’ and the ‘Janbus Midi’, the world’s ‘first’, front-engine, fully flat floor buses at the International Bus and Utility Vehicle Show, being held at Greater Noida. Feature-rich and technologically advanced, both these vehicles are innovative transport solutions addressing urban transportation needs. While the ‘Janbus’ is ideal for easy, comfortable and affordable city travel, the ‘Janbus Midi’ will serve as a feeder bus.

With a floor height of 650 mm, the ‘Janbus’ has uniform floor height right from the driver’s work station to the rear for hassle-free passenger movement. Boarding and alighting is easy thanks to its wide doors and single step entry which also significantly reduces stoppage time at bus stops

The 8-meter ‘Janbus Midi’, with a uniform floor height of 650 mm is specially designed for feeder services, offering passengers last mile connectivity from metro stations, BRT corridors to their final destinations. Metro feeder operations require quick boarding and alighting for which the bus is equipped with wide doors and a single-step entry.

There is a interesting read about Jan bus in detail here
Quote:
Ashok Leyland Jan bus - The Hitech Low Cost Approach
Low floor buses invariably meant integral construction and a rear engine not to mention a big cost outlay. Not any longer if one has to go by Ashok Leyland's novel approach with its Jan bus

There is something about the 'can do' spirit which has been imbibed by many of our Indian OEMs as they grapple with the onerous task of delivering worthwhile solutions to mobility while forsaking outright tech for smart thought. Much that very essence pervades the very concept of the Jan Bus (Jan as in janata, public) that has surprisingly come from the uber staid and not to mention, ultra conservative Ashok Leyland...

The one with Parveen is a LPO 1612. This was a old vintage stock cleared by Tata.

What's the Market response to this innovative product ? Have seen this product on the show circuit for sometime - is this already being sold? I would assume a fairly sizeable demand if it fulfils Low floor requirements at a competitive cost.

re: The 2013 International Bus & Utility Vehicle Show, Noida

Can the Jan Bus replace the Volvo city buses ? What are the specs and what is the pricing ? AL had decent low floor buses with rear engine, but it never took off. What is different with this one ? We also want to see competition and we all want to see our local brands do well.

Ashok Leyland @ International Bus and UV show

Ashok Leyland has showcased two concepts for urban transport. Both are new and innovative. Basically they are engineered for reducing total cost of acquisition. As such lower the bus floors are more the costlier they are to induct. In this case these buses are developed in front engine platform so the cost comes down significantly. Also this will have all the advantages of front engine like easy maintenance, better fuel performance etc.

In this, JanBus was already showcased in last Auto expo and now a midi version of the same is showcased as JanBus Midi.

As usual Tata stall was very big spanning over one complete side of exhibition stall.

Starbus Ultra skool:
Ultra school was the cutest of the entire lot and Tata has managed to squeeze 56 seat in this 10m bus - plz note that this is narrower than regular buses. Fit finish was very good for the CV standards.

Starbus Ultra Tourist:
Pushback 36 push back 2x2 seater. Both these buses are with cable shift gear shift, rack and reach adjustable steering wheel, rear luggage box etc.

Force Motors @ 2013 International Bus & Utility Vehicle Show, Noida

Force motors was fully present and took this show so serious. Entire range from Force 1 to Gurkha, Traveller to Traveller 26 and Trump to Excel. Though the last group was not completely qualifying for this show.

Traveller 26:
A very good engineering effort from Force motors. With Traveller enjoying a monopoly market, its a logical expansion of current range. Traveller is now wider and longer.
