A trip I'd like to forget: Onboard the Jet Airways flight that skidded off a runway

Reviving this thread as the final report of Emirates 521 accident at Dubai is now out. EK 521 was a flight from Thiruvananthapuram to Dubai which crashed on landing on 03 August 2016. A firefighter lost his life and the aircraft was destroyed, but all passengers and crew survived the accident.A lot of passengers ignored cabin crew instructions to leave hand baggage behind thus obstructing and delaying evacuation.

The cause of the crash has been identified as primarily due to pilot error.Cabin crew has been commended for professionalism. According to the report, one cabin crew member had to exit the aircraft to help rectify an escape slide which did not deploy effectively but then came back inside to assist with the evacuation.

Although two of the last six aircraft preceding the flight in question had gone around, only one of the other aircraft was informed about the same.A wind shear report by a preceding aircraft (EK 521 was on a different frequency) was also not passed on.

A number of deficiencies with respect to the handling by Airport Fire and Rescue has also been higlighted. Also it took 18 minutes to pass on the information about total number of passengers and crew on board the aircraft to the fire and rescue team and even then the numbers were incorrect.
