Big shoutout to Eddy for shooting these pictures & his coverage of the Auto Expo. Thanks for sharing, man!

Greaves Cotton Limited is an engineering company which manufactures diesel/ petrol engines, farm equipment and heavy equipment. It manufactures approximately 4,00,000 engines annually at their plants in Pune, Aurangabad & Ranipet. At the Auto Expo, the company showcased BSVI ready versions of diesel and CNG powertrains in 3-wheeler and micro 4-wheeler segments:

Hi Omkar - Thanks for the review - this is an under represented segment.

I have a query - you've mentioned that the 600 cc diesel engine ( used in the Tata Ace Zip?) is common rail - I was under the impression that only a multi cylinder engine can be called a common rail - can you confirm?

I don't know the exact working of the common rail injection system in a single cylinder engines, although it is not uncommon.

After some searching found this answer -
Quote:
It is possible to apply a common rail system at a small one cylinder diesel engine in general. You need a common rail pump, an ECU, connectors, tubes, and a suitable injector. In addition, sensors have to be applied according to the requirements of the control system. To save money, it makes sense to take a CR system from an existing serial engine. But it has to be clarified if the injector fits to the size and performance of the targeted engine.

For confirmation, here's the product description. You'll notice that the bigger engine also is a single cylinder and gets Common rail injection:

Re: Greaves Cotton @ Auto Expo 2018

For me, the opposed piston engine (a 4 stroke) would have been one of the more interesting (which is entirely different from relevant) exhibits of the expo .
There was even a cutout model on display. But like womens' fashion from the masters, it teased and tantalised, but revealed nothing!

The engine is by Pinnacle, (a French company, if memory serves me correctly, but their site lists US and Indian contact addresses)
http://www.pinnacle-engines.com/technology/
who made some noise around 4-5 years back, but even their site has almost no technical details.

The person manning the exhibit was certainly better than the 'minders' at other stalls (one of whom confessed that they were there for crowd control, and keeping the (two legged) models safe), but technically way out of his depth. Ultimately he resorted to 'these details can only be discussed with OEs!' - a variation of the commonly used on our forum of 'confidentiality agreements prevent me from saying anything more'.
