First week of October is the Annual Naval Fleet week of San Francisco. One of the highlights is the Air show, and the highlight of the Air show are the Blue Angels (American Surya Kiran, but blue).
Of course there is Sean D Tucker and team Oracle and an United Boeing 777 doing very un boeing like things
On Sunday we decided to catch the show, and here is the photolog.. Mostly blue angles
Of course what is an Airshow without some Dogs...
And Protesters!
And planes. These are the blue angels. Some really amazing flying happening
Not all fighters are made for range, and esp with Acrobatics, fuel consumption is a lot more. So the Blue angels made a final pass before their fuel break
One of them buzzed the boats. I guess the peace boat wouldn't have liked it
With that it would have been almost an hour of listening to just Top Gun anthem, but fear not. Team Oracle is here.
We start with a 9
Or is it a "G"
Some crazy G force pulling stunts in what is effectively a 100 year old design.
After some really tight loops and hair raising stunts, it was time for something bigger. Much much bigger
The Peace boat now looks very un-peacy. Looks like they got buzzed one too many
And here they come, over Berkeley. Its a hot day, and the Heat distortion is clearly visible. Can you spot 6 of them
Two break formation, and 4 line up, for some really close flying
Here they are
This is some incredible formation flying
Er... Planning to land?
Naah just bluffing. Look at one of them go upside down. Looking for Demagorgons?
Well, watching them swoop by, I guess even that would be terrified
They come in with a smoke trail
And then buzz past
Its beautiful and terrifying at the same time. Such is this dance
Yes, its the game of chicken. I have seen it being played on 2 lain highways in Kerala, with contact.
Over here, its just a buzz
But seriously, you forget to breathe, atleast for a while
Meanwhile, cool formation flying goes on
They are packed denser than Delhi metro on 14th Aug Eve
The two outliers do some close chicken buzzing again
And then some slow flying
As the two go around, 4 do some neat flying
And then we are all united.
The Six angles, flying as if on rails. Seriously, I have sat in trains which moved from their tracks more than this
Aaaannd, its time to diverge again
Some amazing pics! You must have had an amazing experience! Once I was in LA during the 4th of July. I heard there was an demonstration going to happen somewhere but missed it. I love the Blue Angels!
Your pics are simply brilliant! May I ask which gear did you use?

Well, I hate to be that person, but I would like to make a small correction. These are the
Patriots Jet Team. Blue Angels only fly the F/A-18 Hornet. The Blue Angels are in your later pics. The cool looking planes with US NAVY written under the wings.
This is the blue angels support plane. It's a c 130 Hercules.
All the support staff for the team and spare parts and logistics are carried on this plane.
The crew calls it FAT ALBERT.
When the angels perform at an airport the fat albert gets rocket pods (additional thrust) attached to the aft fuselage and are used to demonstrate very short takeoff and near vertical climb.

I don’t think they do the rockets anymore, seem to recall they stopped that some years ago. But they do get to show of their flying skills too.
This is
It is a pretty spectacular display. Look at this video taken from the cockpit. Watch the crew float our of their seats at the top of a very aggressive take off.
