When the title read monster truck I honestly thought someone got one over to India.

Nevertheless, the truck is huge. Wonder how they manage to drive such a huge truck with such a heavy load. I guess it would do very very low speeds only.

So many tires? What happens if there is flat tire? Wonder how they would change the flat. I am guessing the truck is equipped with Tire pressure monitoring sensors.

Nice find.

Saw something similar yesterday in Chennai - salem route.
it was pulled by a Tatra truck.
it also had a driver/ controller on extreme rear end . He was operating some pneumatic controls to the wheels. BTW the convoy of 2 trucks held traffic for over 3 kms at their speeds of less than 10 Kmph

Thanks MODS for moving my post here. Even bigger monsters have been displayed and discussed here.
Is there any calculation of why and how of number of wheels needed?

Four days, a trailer was parked at the South Extension Part I petrol pump (near South Ex flyover). It was carrying a rusty army tanker.

Any t-bhpites catch that?

Ram,
It was a tank. As in a battle tank, the second one in your picture.

Was surprising to catch it in the city. It was without the main cannon though. Dwarfed everything in sight.

Am going a bit OT here, but did anyone see the huge trailer that was stuck in Kasara ghat for about 3-4 months ( reportedly ). Any info on that ??

edit : Just googled for Kasara ghat and found a news item dated Mar'08 that said the trailer was stuck in kasara ghat since May'07 and is being removed and the ghat will be closed for 12 hrs or so.

Linky : Kasara Ghat section to remain close tomorrow

hkanitkar, last year, on Wed. 13-Jun 2007 I had seen that stuck trailer while I was driving from Mumbai to the Mahindra Scorpio factory at Nashik.

They had left it in place and built a road around it, so that traffic could move on.

GPS location of the stuck was [19.678376N, 73.502523E]

I saw one truck although some time back, it was Volve tractor and the trailer was carrying some huge turbine or something. They were moving very very slowly and one of the old bridge they were crossing was closed for normal traffic till they crossed the bridge. It took them more than 15 minutes.

Back-of-the-hand calculation:
For the tyre size used here generally, the allowable load is around 3T per tyre.
As the number of tyres on one axle / location goes up, the per-tyre load allowable reduces. ( for a 4-tyre axle, the allowable limit is about 9T instead of 12T(4X3T)). In any case, number of tyres X 3T will give you max possible technical load limit. This may further reduce based on configuration of wheels / axles, etc. Add to this, legal restrictions.
