Ape is Piaggio's world famous brand name which is much older than that of Ace.

It's pronounced aah-pay, which means bee in Italian. Not ape, as in simian semi-human.

Hmmm... that sliding front is nice. But I think they lost the plot somewhere around the headlight-grill level. That part is a bit jarring. In fact thinner, elongated headlamps with a more sober grill would have made this truk a looker, IMO.

AFAIK, APE is the name of the company, not the truck.

Looks like the astounding success of Tata's ace has gotten everyones attention. How does this compare to the Ace in terms of utility, since that will be the criteria to choose between the Ape and the Ace.

Piaggio Vehicles' sales of commercial three-wheelers crossed 1.4 lakh vehicles in 2006. It has a production capacity of 1.50 lakh vehicles a year.
Where is Piaggio going to fit in the production of the Ape? Only 10,000 per year? Doesnt sound right but the news article does not mention any production expansion plans.

As per the article... Its a 482cc engine... Compared to 700cc on the ace... No idea of the power figures comparison though...

However, its got a 5 speed gearbox compared to the 4 speed on the Ace...
