Mercedes Benz Actros Fire Engine

On my way from Delhi to Calicut, before reaching Surat, I saw two new Mercedes Actros Fire truck being transported on a trailer. Its for Reliance Special Economic Zone, Jamnager.

Its based on Actros 2641 chassis with M cabin & 6x4 drive configuration. The engine is the same engine 400hp V6 coming in the 4041 8x4 tipper which is being sold here.

This is the first of its kind in India. I was said that other than tipper, there is a off-road purpose 6x6 Actros also with the India Railway which used for the survey purposes.

Tata with Mercedes on the back :-)

OT, why can't they transport such trucks in a safer manner? If you notice, they haven't even bothered to put wheel-chocks on any wheel and there are only flimsy steel chains to hold it down. Even modern tiedowns made of steel reinforced synthetic material are stronger than steel chains! Also, these should go on a low-loader. The huge height and weight of the Actros must have raised the CG of the combined weight to a dangerous level. I can only hope the Actros'es handbrakes are on and it is in gear!

Dude you seriously need to give the transporter some credit. They know what they are doing. Do you really think Mercedes will transport something like this without taking all safety into consideration. Also what makes you think that steel chains are flimsy. A chain that size is capable of lifting 20 - 30 tonnes where as over here it is just holding something down. And there are three chains there. More than enough for something like this.

Aren't this the same type of fire fighters used here in Bangalore's BIAL? I think so.

IIRC, these were taken by Mad Monkey at the Mumbai Port. They're posted here on a thread somewhere.

Dudes, even the Actros tippers are seen transported to its final destiantion (the mine fields). Its not because that it cant cover the distance from port, but its shows the commitment of the company to deliver their customer the purest machine as much as they can. It's not like our Indian CV manufatures who run the truck/chassis 1000 of kms through various road condition that too very careless driving. I've even seen on my trip some LHD busses & bus chassis beign taken through road from Chennai till Mumbai before export. This has to be changed.

As you may be aware Mercedes is not having trailers or truck other than the heavy duty tippers in India, hence they don't use thier truck to transport it.

"This is the first of its kind in India. "

MUmbai Fire Brigade also has engines similar to these.. used for special heavy duty work.. they are parked at Byculla.

I've covered an article about Bombay Fire Brigade & its not the Actros, but LP-series. And its a 40-feet lader, not fire engine. I've even had a drive in it & they have demonstrated the working of the lader too. I'll post those photos later.
