Parm,
An interesting thread started by you and there will be many add on pics and inputs here I am sure.
The latest from Mahindra stables for the Army.
The stylish, Anand Mahindra VC/ MD of M&M proudly posing in front of the
Marksman.
Different from the
Axe atleast in front end ( grille, hood to windshield area) dimensions or all together another variant. Looks more like a armoured personell carrier.
note: Warn type front bumper.
Here is the mine resistant Casspir MPV
Cheers

I suppose you left out the mundane Gypsies and MM-540s because they're too common! |
IIRC Neither the Army nor the Airforce have used the MZKT.
The UAZ469 was supplied with the Tanks (Regiments) for the recce troop, however was not very active in service due to spares.

Very True,
Well but as someone else also mentioned, a few were also used by the IAF. I could be wrong but my uncle mentioned it.
Anyways here's a pic of the Uaz that my Uncle owns. The 6 cylinder petrol engine has been changed and it now hosts a 2.8 Lt Pajero engine and 4x4 gearbox. The vehicle is amazing, great ground clearance and sheer size just keep you astonished.
Cheers !!!!

Awesome pic @Parm. Where did you get this one? Could not identify the vehicles apart form the Axe. What is Vectra? Who makes them? Sorry for so many questions. |
I guess tatra and vectra have a tie up to produce army vehicles . I guess they have tied up with with BEML for manufacturing these vehicles locally.

Nice pic param,
How could you lay hands on such picture?
Now in have few questions for the defense vehicle experts-
1. I know that Mahindra Axe is undergoing trials with indian army and so does the TATA LSV. What is the other vehicle in picture?
2. Any comments on comparison between these vehicles?
regards
vinod

Yes you are right, they are left hand drive, very good driver position, very comfortable cabin(for an army truck standardslol:),quite an experience sitting in one, imagine what driving would be:) ,very tall, good ground clearance, the tyres are self-inflatable,air adjustable suspension on all tyres. They are a common sight carrying tanks on the highways near the border in Rajasthan.

Also I remember amongst the lot my favorite used to be a Russian vehicle known by the name CRAZ. Eight wheels and huge to say the least and generally used as a missile carrier. Tried to search for pics on the net but was unlucky. |
Try searching for Kraz 255b or Kraz 260b

What vehicle is 3rd from left?
3 pages of posts and no one mentioned Zil?
ZIL131 carried the BM21 MBRL (Multi Barrel Rocket Luncher) system. This system fired on Tiger hill, while Burkha Dutt (NDTV) was talking on camera.

Forget about those Axe and other fancy vehicles. What about the internally developed vehicles?
Its a shame that nobody talks about Windy-505, an internally developed 4X4 vehicle to overcome the shortcomings of Gypsy & MM540/550. I guess its phased out, as usual.
Cheers!

Does anyone have any pics of army 550's in which the power steering is being installed. Someone told me that it is being done out front on the bumper.
I just want to see for myself.
here some more photos of 4x4s used by our forces.
