Team-BHP - What tractor should I buy?

It will be used for typical farming work in Punjab/Haryana. So ploughing after paddy is cultivated, taking crops to mandi (trolley), getting fields ready for paddy (wet work).

Also the best job, taking manure to spread in 1 field to produce the best wheat you ever tasted without any chemical spray or fertiliser.

Just curious, how much do these tractors cost? I know it will vary from model to model and from manufacturer to manufacturer but what is the ballpark range? 5L? 10L? For example, how much would new holland tractors mentioned here cost and how much would be a similarly specced john deere for?

@ Bigman, having worked in the Tractor industry a bit, here are a few pointers for your consideration:

If you are looking for a High HP tractor ( 55 HP or above) you would be better off going with John Deere or New Holland. Even Swaraj 855 FE is also good. Below 55 HP is a different game altogether.
In the 45 HP category, you have MM Arjun 475, Tafe 5245 Mahaan / Maha Mahaan and Escorts ( Don't remember model number) all of which have pros and cons.
If you are looking for relaibility and resale value depending upon region it would be either MM or TAFE.
The major benefit of TAFE/MF tractors over others s the hydraulics as it uses double acting plunger ( I think).

I would be able to help you better if you can tell me what kind of acreage are you talking about per tractor and whether any other implements like the Front Loader or Back Hoe are also going to be instaled.

He says it has to be 55HP. Please can you look at the web links posted in the first post for the New Holland 3630 and 5500 and tell me in laymans terms what the differences are. Is there any specification difference between the two?

To me they appear to be the same thing just one has a fancy modern look and there is an option to go for 4wd (on the 5500) but he will be going for 2wd.

Time to close this thread. In the end I managed to convince him to go for a John Deere. A brand new John Deere 5310 was bought last week for 5.27L which included the weights, canopy and front fender. A few locals who owned the NewHolland models als put him off getting one as they had encountered quite a few problems.

Apparently it drives like a car with it power braking and power steering.

Was going through the links provided about the New Holland tractors in the first post and came across this line about Oil immersed disc brakes. What are they and how do they operate if its immersed in oil.

Thats a very blanket statement. Having worked with TAFE, let me tell you this much that TAFE has higher profitability across all tractor manufacturers irrespective of volumes.
