Looking for a 4X4 pick up/crew cab

Hi guys,
My company is looking to purchase 4X4 pick up trucks/ crew cabs in India.
Our plan is to use if to move Dirtbikes and ATVS behind in a small trailer and have the back filled with lugage and stuff.

We are looking in to the tata xenon. What do you guys think?
Anyother vehicle I should be looking at.

cheers

1) You can consider Mahinda Gateway or Xenon. Xenon has better performance and also handling is a bit better than Scorpio, but this is what I have read.

2) This thread must be in : SUVs, MUVs & 4x4s - Team-BHP

Mahindra gateway if the only vehicle.

Else an innova for passengers and a pikup FB/CC(?) with 4wd should do the job

i would say go with anyone of these two as per your needs and requirements.

i would prefere a MM getaway over Xenon!

AFAIK The Mahindra is the one which is better off road and Tata has the better road manners .

The XENON is a more serious effort by TATA at the pick-up market. It is widely exported and has its own accessory line up.

The GETAWAY is huge and cumbersome. Its more like an addition to the SCORPIO family than a vehicle in its own right

One problem you will have with the Scorpio Getaway is that it was designed as an SUV and a bed added so if you notice most of the bed sticks behind the rear wheels and when you load it up the front of the vehicle will lift uncomfortable causing an issue with driving and road handling.

The Xenon on the other hand was designed as a pick up right from start so the rear bed is well proportioned over the rear wheels so the impact of load in the bed won't be as bad as on the Scorpio.

If you don't care too much about image then the Bolero Camper is the way to go. You still have a bit off issues with the rear over hang but it is a very trouble free and bullet proof vehicle. It is available in 4WD with the DI engine and 4 speed gearbox and much cheaper than the Scorpio/Xenon 4x4.

A note about 4WD boleros. I do not think the BS III engine is available. So in Tier 1 cities like Delhi you cannot register a 4WD bolero.
No such issues with getaway or Xenon.
But I suspect you intend to register in Punjab, right?

I thank you all for your inputs.

What I am looking for is something that will not only be comfortable to drive, but all be able to pull a small trailer with ATVS and Dirt bikes.

We plan to take our clients out to the desert and the mountains for adventure Long weekends.

So far I see the xenon is the only one that actually looks good to the eye.
and has a sporty look to it.

How many vehicles will go at a time? I would suggest the TL for it's simplicity of maintenance [read IDI engine with mechanical injection] But it can be registered only till april next year in tier 1 cities,If that an issue. Go for the Xenon as it fits your requirement. It's proven it capability in most markets. and is bigger than the Gateway and more comfortable. And it will give your business a better value [looks of the vehicle], looking at the xenon gives a good feeling that it can go anywhere [it actually does in most places], do not get me wrong the gateway can do what the xenon does ,but this feeling does not come with the gateway [unless the person is a mahindra fan].
Just take a look at the photos on this link.

If the clients are going to be driven in the vehicle as well then its Xenon hands down. Remember both of them have limited rear leg room.

Hi Dinar:

Can the TL still be ordered? I thought it has been discontinued? Though it is relatively underpowered, I too prefer the TL for it's simplicity (IDI, engine etc).

HI TL can be still ordered.

Its come with almost 97% of the XENON features and has 4*4 LSD and so on.

The TL - 1948cc with 92 HP comes with 2 types of crew cab (Tata Motors 4x4 TL)

The XENON : 2179cc with 140 PS at almost 9 lks . home

My personal feeling - Go in for XENON if its for your use as well during weekends else go for TL .
