All AP registered buses will have this config only(These KPN buses are registered at Chittoor)
Sooner when the CMVR norms comes in place favoring sleeper buses, its operators wish to choose the config irrespective of state's preference.

KPN operates this type of AC sleepers from Coimbatore(salem), Bangalore, Chennai - Hyderabad.
Out of this Cbe - Hyd(both) and Blore - Hyd(one) are fitted with AT's.
With this KPN's overall AT fleet increases to 5.

Is the Mercedes-Benz bus underlit? Almost every Merc bus I see these days has extra lamps fixed on it. Now Parveen has changed its headlamp assembly - they now have regular halogen lamps. The projectors have been removed - and in the process the extra lights have also been removed.

It is the same bus (KL-07-BR-5299). Had seen extra lamps on Konduskar's Multi-Axle Merc as well:

Has this got to do something with poor throw of the OE lamps? Or is it just another trend like AP operators doing on a Volvo?

Absolutely not! I have travelled in the merc and the volvos many a times and I am very sure(coz I always prefer the seat behind the driver/first row) and I can say with confidence that the OEM set up is quite powerful. (I dont sleep when I travel, I love watching the bus driven).
Volvo - Low-Beam Projector halogen, high beam halogen, plus headlamp assist(halogen - it is the inner most light in the volvo setup)
Merc- Low beam projector halogen, highbeam halogen (seperate lights like volvos) plus projector fog lamps.
But there is not much of info in net that could be found regarding the wattage of OEM's which should give the good idea. But What I can think of is that, our drives are not satisfied with they way they blind the oncoming vehicles and want more to dip and high when they overtake. (when on their life they drive on low beams) enough is never enough for our volvo heros.

Attached is the press report on the expected launches of Volvo buses in India.

1. Volvo 9400PX Multi-axle at 14.5m, PX platform & 11-litre engine
2. Volvo 9400XL Multi-axle at 13.7m with 9 litre engine
3. Volvo 9400 with 9-litre configuration
4. Volvo 9400 with 7 litre configuration
5. Volvo 9100
6. Volvo 7400XL City Bus
7. Volvo 7400 City Bus
8. Volvo 7400CNG City Bus
9. Volvo 7400Semi-Low Floor City Bus
10. Volvo 8400 Commuter City Bus

Cheers!

Guess its the OE projectors that have got damaged for some reason and these operators dont want to spend on projectors .Instead you opt for these cheap auxillary lamps and compromise on safety .

What a pity ...operators are prepared to risk 80-90L worth of machinery for want of spending a few thousands on OE projector lamps :)

Ashok Leyland launched Jan Bus, the world’s first single step, front engine, fully flat floor bus.The Jan Bus gets air suspension, driver friendly assists and infotainment system to keep the passengers entertained. The Jan Bus gets a 235PS turbo-charged BS4 compliant CNG MPFI engine and an automated manual transmission.

Have not seen Hybus on Road :(
Jan Bus looks good but will we see this on road ?

@nbr : Thanks for the image.

While every manufacturer going with Rear Engines for their latest designs (I recently seen abroad a vestibule bus with engine at the very back), why AL is going for a Front Engine design. Just trying to be different from the rest of the pack or an engineering wonder Volvo and MB not able to achieve. Is it practical or just a one off prototype. The design defenitely looks good..

The Hybus was a very expensive concept - thankfully, BMTC (Bangalore) has evinced interest in it, and they are supposed to get a couple of Hybus for trial.

While the one displayed at the autoexpo was a CNG-Hybrid, BMTC would be getting Diesel-Hybrids.

For some reason, I think Leyland is hitting the nail at the right place. The rear engines are too expensive to run - in the humid, dusty conditions we have in most parts of our country. Moreover, our operators have a likening for FE buses, mainly due to the ease of maintenance, and lower operating costs.

If the JanBus really hits the road, it is going to be a run-away success - just like the Viking SLFs.

Even i feel the same, FE buses will work in India due to their low maintanence and fuel effeciency as well .Even the cost to purchase and run would differ drastically .

is the Jan bus a front wheel drive one? the reason i asked is its said this one is a fully flat surface one.

A pic of bus running as a contract carriage for a marriage party.
[Calicut registered, may be in Mid 80s model]

Interesting pic.Which year was the pic taken?

Are you sure it is a contract carriage? Looks more like a "bootleg" operation - several route buses used to run for marriages on Sundays in olden days. Is it possible to have a clearer scan?
