Re: City Buses of various STUs all over India

BMTC yesterday launched this service. As per news, it is claimed to be the first city bus with a steered axle.

"7400XL" is marked on side. Any details on engine, please share.

Re: City Buses of various STUs all over India

And here come the pictures!

When I spotted this bus at HAL signal, I knew something was diff.; thought it was a new manufacturer. When I saw Volvo and 7400 at the rear, I grew curious and decided to take some pictures.

I think there was 1 extra row.

Re: City Buses of various STUs all over India

BMTC is currently running trials of the new Volvo 7400XL. The bus would run on the following routes: KBS to ITPL, KBS to Attibelle, KBS to Bannerghatta National Park, Banashankari to ITPL and Silk Board to Hebbal.

The bus is now running on Banashankari-ITPL (500CA) route. (The bus starts in the morning from KBS as 335E to ITPL, and then works 500CA over the day).

I spotted the bus today on the Outer Ring Road (Could not travel in it due to lack of time). The finish of the bus looks much better than the current Volvo 8400. The rear profile is very different as well.

Some features of the Volvo 7400XL from a press release made by Volvo:
Quote:
The Volvo 7400XL is India’s first multi-axle city bus, with steered axle. At 14.5m, it is India’s first city bus ready to support efficient mass bus-based transport systems to move more people, with fewer buses, quicker & with less resource utilisation.

The Volvo 7400XL is powered by the highly efficient Volvo 7-litre diesel engine with a high power of 290hp equipped with a turbocharger and intercooler. The engine results in first-class drivability, outstanding fuel-efficiency and low environmental impact.
Some images I took today:

Good to see the Volvo XL driver wearing seat belt. Why not other drivers follow the same?

Queries about trial runs

Have some queries regarding trial runs. Notice that the trial buses do not have the alphabet 'F' in the number plate (which means the bus is not owned by BMTC).
  • Is it okay/legal/permissible to conduct trial runs with the traveling public?
  • In the event of an accident resulting in death or injury, who is liable to pay compensation (the manufacturer of the vehicle or the company operating the vehicle on trial)?
  • Who bears the cost of fuel and other expenses during the trial period?
(MODS: Please feel free to delete this post if inappropriate)

The trial conducted is operational in nature. The interested buyer runs the trial of the new product to determine if the product suits the needs of the buyer - in terms of fuel efficiency in actual running conditions, performance on the road, etc.

The product is already approved by the ARAI and is certified safe to run on the road - so its perfectly within legal provisions to carry passengers in such a bus.

In the event of an accident, the insurance company would bear the expenses, including compensation, if any, to the injured/dead.

Cost of fuel: Depends on the agreement between the seller and the buyer. For some trials, the prospective buyer spends for the crew and the fuel, while in some trials fuel is borne by the manufacturer.

VE Commercial Vehicles bags order of 1,019 Bus Chassis from Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation.

Quote:
VE Commercial Vehicles Limited, India's third largest truck and bus maker (Volvo Group and Eicher Motors Joint Venture) has bagged an order of 1019 units of Eicher 20.15 BS III Bus Chassis from the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation.

This is a repeat order from GSRTC to connect intercity and rural connectivity requirement in Gujarat, the company in a statement said. VE says the new order is a testimony of the faith reposed on the Eicher brand by the Gujarat road transport authority

Wow, awesome! 'doesnt give you the feeling tis in India! 'wonder when APSRTC is going to get such Buses over here- and if they can maintain them if/once we have them! They seem incapable of keeping even just 2 Volvo buses that were brought here in roadworthy condition!

We still have the archaic, 'home-made' 'breadbox' AL buses that look and feel like they're breaking apart on the inside and outside, plying here!

Just saw an AL rear engine air conditioned test bus doing its round near Adyar, Chennai. The bus looked very similar to the low floor Volvo city MTC buses in Chennai. Sorry couldn't click a pic.

A real VIP ride. Really a bad situation and this shows how people of Bangalore are depending on BMTC for their travel. I'm one among them who always uses BMTC buses whenever i visit bangalore.

Apparently some BMTC buses were running with private drivers and conductors. I was standing near Rajarajeshwari Arch (Mysore Road) on the second day of the strike and a BMTC bus, route 225 (KR Market-BEML 5th Stage) passed by. Me and a couple of others were surprised and then the tea shop guy told us that private drivers were used to ply some buses. He also said they were paid Rs.750 per day as 'bata'.

Yes. In Shanthi Nagar BS, I have seen some of the buses driven by those private drivers to Agara, Silk Board etc..,

Saw some KSRTC Rajahamsas driven by private drivers too and they were heading to places like Chennai, Coimbatore, Kumily etc..,

Re: City Buses of various STUs all over India

KMS Coach builders seem to be revolutionizing/innovating at a good pace. The BMTC 1616c BS-IV buses that have been pressed into service since the last week have LED roof lamps, which look brighter and neat (plush with the roof) too.
