I suggest you to wait for couple of weeks until we get to hear the latest happenings in various cities. In cochin, RTO introduced many camps at various locations for sun film removal. There was a report last week saying atleast 400 cars showed up at the RTO office for sun film removal. Seeing this huge number of cars, they decided to open more camps. Last week I saw one camp and was able to see few cars lined up. I still have the films on my car and am waiting to see if they make it really strict. Although I got my films at a great price, I cant think of using my car without films.

Unless or until something new happens in the courts, this remains a really bad time to buy new film. The worst of the weather seems to be over now: by next summer things may be sorted out, one way or the other.

I have CR70 on my front wind shield and it is hardly noticeable. Hence you should not worry at all.

I drive an MH reg. car in Gujarat, so I get caught round every corner, they catch us just for the heck of it. Got really irritated with this and removed the sunfilm off my Aveo UVA.

Started from the top lifting up a little portion with the help of a cutter. Then started pulling from left to right downwards (slowly). It came off pretty smoothly. But just to be on the safe side, I sprayed water (from one of those hair dresser sprayers) over the edges from where it was peeling off. I am not sure but the water must have helped the peeling process as it seeped into the edges.

Simply put: It went on like a sticker and came off the same way.

i own a safari and sunfilms are removed in my beast, and i am planning to get the Curtains as attached.

but i heard that even curtains are not permitted.

@RPRI: I got my sunfilms removed for my Honda City from car sparkle fellows for 300 bucks. They used the razor, glass cleaner + soap and did a pretty neat job. Even I was worried with the defogger glass but then they said the defogger strips are embedded in between the glass and hence they are shielded from any kind of scraping made by sharp objects. This made me comfortable and verifying their statememt all by myself, I gave them a go ahead with the job.

I removed my films myself (was provided for free by dealer, horrible quality), which was like a 20min job with a razor blade. The work that follows is the really painful part - removing the glue. That is one horrible glue that was used for my film. I tried

a) soap - miserably failed. did nothing.
b) diesel - just glided over glue. did nothing.
c) nail polish remover - works, but evaporates too fast to be of any use
d) paint thinner - the only thing that works, doesn't dry too fast.

So today I got myself a new bottle of thinner for 30rs and started wiping away the glue with an old rag. 1 hour 10 minutes later, I'm only done with the front driver side window and quarter glass. That's it :Frustrati Tired as hell, I quit, leaving the other windows for some other day. This is one job that needs serious elbow, knee, and other joints grease.

EDIT: And the fumes are a torture. Keep all windows open and do this in an open space.

Have you tried Zorrik or WD40? That removes glue easily. Also, oncew you use a solvent, its easier to scrape the residue rather than wiping it. Use a plastic card to do the same. First apply the solvent and leave it for a minute and after that scrape the glue. It will come out like normal muck.

I removed sunfilm in my swift last sunday. Sunfilm was Garware classic with 50% transperancy. First slightly pulled out part of sunfilm using side of paper cutting blade. Then pulled out the film with hand so that it doesnt tear away in between. Sprayed diluted Amway car wash and waited for 10 minutes. Then using the paper cutting blade is an very acute angle we can wipe of the glue. Really simple job.

I have seen many KA registered cars in Chennai with Sun Films on their glasses. Please let me know if the Bangalore Traffic Police has become lenient and whether they no longer catch or fine cars with sun films.

Was driving around in Ghatkopar where my house is and out of 100 cars, 98 still had sun films on and so does my Swift

had been to Borivali today and saw out of 100 cars, around 80 still had sun films on

Passed so many cops standing on the road, none ever stopped any cars for sun films.
