DIY: Sliding Front Passenger Seat (For Jeep, Gypsy & other 2-door UVs) Many Jeep owners have opted for a forward-facing seat at the rear. As a routine, the front two are bucket seats.
Managing rear occupants to come out through the front passenger side without someone’s help (to slide the passenger seat forward) is impossible. Gypsy has it’s own company design to overcome this problem.
After giving the mind some thinking, I came up with my own design for my Van’s rear seat. I thought this Mod should be helpful to some of you.
Seat Donor in my Mod, Innova.
I have made two designs, you can select between the two, based on your comfort.
1. By pulling the lever, sliding lock is released & the seat can be pushed forward. Backrest stays in the same position.
2. The lock releasing cable is connected to the seat’s backrest adjusting lever handle. Once the lever is pulled up, backrest leans forward & stays there. This also ensures that the slider lock is open until the backrest is pushed back. So the seat slides to & fro until backrest is pulled back.
Some visuals for you.
