Finished the rear bumper yesterday. Had considerable paint left in the can so painted the front mudflaps and rear ones next since I am thinking of not using it for the body anymore. Hence if anyone wants to use the remaining for any small touch ups you can contact me. I guess it should be fine enough to touch up some small scratches using a brush.















The dent on the hatch was an old one which I have left it as it is. Now this is the only eyesore left.

Friends, Need your advice to repair / restore the Car Bumper (Elite i20) to its original / near original state. Have attached two pictures to show you the damage. I would like to know
1. If the paint touch up be any good?
2. Replace the bumper?

The damage is limited to 2-3 places, while one is very minor, the second and the third near the headlight is deep. :eek:

The Incident: The incident happened today, partly my mistake (should have known how it works here). Having driven in Abu Dhabi all these years (less than 15 days in India), i am still getting used to the driving style prevalent here.

P.S: for those of you concerned, there was no injury for either the driver nor the pillion rider, except for dirt on the trousers of the rider.

No need to replace the bumper.

Repainting will give you a better finish but I don't think it would be worth for such a small damage. I know it hurts given that the car is just 3 days old but there is not much you can do.

I would suggest take the car to a good car body shop near your area and ask them to touchup.

If you can give some time, try to ask these guys http://www.com-paint.com/ for your shade and perform a DIY.

The latest on this topic is that I had another incident and now the driver side bumper, fog light and mesh was damaged. (Was it things got worse or better :) )

So today, I decided to claim for insurance and get the whole thing replaced. At the workshop I was given a shocker, the bumper that costs 1399 on 99rpm.com is priced at 8000 !!!
Is this ethical? Anyways, for me, I am going ahead with the claim process with my nominal, 1000 excess. But bad thing, the car might be in the garage for up to two weeks (that's what the supervisor told me), again I don't get the idea, I can change the bumper and headlights in under 2 hrs. (Except for the paint job.).

After months of cautious driving finally got the first love-bite/kiss from bangalore traffic. No less than from a truck :Frustrati



Thankfully it didnt break the bumper but left ugly scars. Any suggestions with the brown color of Estilo? I tried the tooth paste(colgate) method but no use. Not going to MASS as of now as they will simply ask to repaint the entire bumper. Appreciate some ideas/suggestions please:

Most of it or the the whole looks like a clear coat scratch to me. It would be a two minute job if a machine is used but if you want to do it by hand, then get a branded rubbing compound and a piece of sponge and work on the area in circular motion. It should go away with a couple of passes over the area. Avoid brands like Motomax, Waxpol and the like and if you are looking for an inexpensive compound then look at 3M finesse or Perfect it. If you want to spend more money then I would suggest Meguiars Ultimate compound. The only problem with these are they are pretty mild and not so aggressive which will require considerable elbow grease. The cheaper ones like Waxpol, Abro, Motomax are very aggressive and can give results in one round of rubbing. But they can do good damage if used in excess which is underside.

To verify if this method will work, first wet the area with water and check if the scratches are visible. You will get the same results with a compound but permanently.

Hello, I tried my first DIY this morning. Went to my local car accessories shop for buying 3M Finesse but unfortunately he didn't have it. He suggested me another compound "Scratch Out - Scartch and Swirl remover". I kind of trust this guy so I decided to give it a shot. (Plus he gave it to me at a discounted rate;)). I also brought a microfibre cloth. Both costing me a total of 580 bucks.
I followed the steps mentioned.
1)First applied the compound and kept it that way for 10+ minutes.
2)Then rubbed it by a microfibre cloth with about 15-20 passes over it.

Glad that it worked well for you. But what was the product you got? Is it by formula 1? I see that the product is quite expensive. Hope it is from a good brand and not a fake one.

Yes, its a light cutting compound I'd say-works best for swirls and hazy headlights.

However a lot of fakes are there in the market, so one should be careful.

Yes. It is formula 1. Here is the one. Priced at around Rs 480

Thats good to see. However, when using a compound next time, use a piece pf sponge instead of a microfiber cloth. The microfiber cloth will absorb the compound and will get spoilt. The sponge on the other hand is ideal for use with compound and will hold the compound until it diminishes. You can later just dust it off.

Excellent thread, many of the DIY'ers had trouble with the exact color match - I was wondering why nobody tried to get automotive paint with the exact color match from a paint shop? There are spray painting machines / guns available right? Is it the difficulty in getting used to the equipment or is it the cost or something else?

I tried this and was successful. Main reason was because my Celerio shade was not available in Com-Paint. Hence, the paint shop nearby did a splendid job in mixing the right shade. Here are the details:
