Gannu_1 and I were talking about VAG suspension, and of course your awesome thread came up!

I seem to remember you mentioning somewhere that you couldn't find the spacer part listed on any international sites? (though i can't find that mention now.. perhaps it was in another thread).

Anyway, Gannu dug this up. Thought I'd share...

This is for the VW Vento though. It's called a Distance Piece.

Hey Reehan,

Thanks for that! I actually removed those, as I didn't like the extra height. So it's back to stock now and much better than before!

Cheers,
Aayush.

Re: Skoda Fabia DIY: Suspension mount & bearings replaced

My Fabia is now almost 7 yrs old & is showing age related issues, mainly Suspension related.

It's 1.2 k kms driven & I still want to keep it for few more yrs..

The first task before me is obviously getting the suspension work done. The Skoda ASS Worksop has estimated somewhere around 40k ₹, which could be done for half the price from some private mechanic.

Now I just want to have your input regarding whether to continue with ASS Worksop or to get the work done from a known workshop outside..

Thanks in anticipation,

The work is fairly a simple one, changing suspensions, bushes and the sorts; 40k is too much honestly, I got mine done (new suspensions all around) from a known tech for around 18k (if I remember correctly) 15k for the struts and kits
and the rest for labour. The parts were OEM (not the ones on the car though) from Steinerhoff.

All in all the work was done well and they are still going on strong (been about 1 year+ now, so about 15k kms).

The garages name is Shri Ganesh (Kandivili) but my known tech (he was GM there and at Tata for sometime now) is no longer with them.

I trust you'd also know a few around and can source the parts, it's actually better if you source them, but either way much better to get it done outside Skoda.

Hope this helps!

Cheers!

Thanks for your reply, Aayush.

In fact, I also was intended likewise, so now will surely get it done from outside.

Will update details when done..

Wow! That's an exhaustive list with a very very VFM price!

Just have one question, how much coolant was required and did you oversee this (then I'll ask for more details)

Cheers and Heres wishing you many many more mile munching glories!

God bless!

Re: Skoda Fabia DIY: Suspension mount & bearings replaced

Great thread, and Aayush you are really into DIY, very impressive.

I am getting work done on my Skoda Fabia as well, 1.2TDi 2011 model 65K on the odo.

Issues:
1. Stiff Steering
2. Hard Clutch
3. Driver side power window gets stuck sometimes

Got a startup in bangalore to repair the car, they advised to change the front 2 suspension using OEM parts, Gabriel make but I am not too happy with the performance

I had installed suspension buffers, got them removed.

Clutch I did not touch till now, steering is still stiff so need to probe that further.

Questions:
1. Any advise on suspension? I really want to make my ride smooth
2. When to go for a clutch change?
3. There is a lot of in cabin squeaking noise which I am not able to solve for, the Skoda ASS did not do anything about it. Any ideas if you faced a similar issue?

Hey thanks a lot Abhinavinc!

1. Is the ride worse; bouncy or hard? I'm not sure if Gabriels are OEM, so maybe check those and if you ain't happy with the ride, change them out. Another thing for a smooth ride is to check if you need new tie rod ends and ball joints. These can make a big difference in ride quality too.

2. The clutch replacement is relative to your clutch use honestly. Are you facing issues with changing gears, low mileage, not being able to go up slopes easily or feel there isn't enough power or is the clutch too hard? Then you'd probably need one. Even then, a simple clutch and brake oil replacement could do wonders for feel. I haven't documented this on TBHP yet, a few DIYs still pending to be posted (as soon as I get some more time)

The tie rod ends replacement could also help with the hard steering. You'll have to have these checked by a trusted mech though!

3. Normally this is from the weather strips (the rubber beading which goes around the insides of the door). The doors when they move when the car moves ever so slightly create these squeaks; yes very irritating!

I use a silicone lubricant to get rid of these, but have to keep doing this frequently; there is another thread on this issue as well where someone has used a tube inside the door seals (on the door) and they've gotten rid of the noises. It didn't work much for me.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
Aayush!
