That is correct. And watch for when only clear water comes out before you fill fresh coolant. If the coolant is a concentrate that asks you to add water, only mix it with distilled water, not tap water.

Re: DIY: Radiator Flush & Coolant Change

Im trying to flush my xylo with tap water and i have flushed it at least 10 times with tap water and 2 times with distilled water and everytime only 3 litres comes out and it comes out blackish in colour. The old coolant was green and that green colour came out in the first 3 tries but after that the blackish colour is not going away anytime soon. It seems to very slowly turn clear. Now its almost clear but not yet. It looks like blackish small pieces of maybe rust or something. Im unable to identify what it is. But I've been at this for more than 3 days. Driving me nuts. I have a obd2 port connected and Im monitoring the coolant temp digitally and I can see that everything is working normally. Thermostat opens at around 90celcius. Circulates water ok.

I wasted full 12 litres of distilled water trying to get rid of the blackish water but couldnt so I switched to tap water again.

Only thing Im draining is the radiator drain bolt. Total 8 litre capacity and Im refilling only about 3.5litres every flush. Anyway, experts here please comment. Im going to flush it one more time with tap water and after that I plan to flush it 5 times with distilled at the end of which I will have about 4 litres of distilled inside the engine block. And after that I will put in the coolant and the remaining with distilled. And then remove all the bubbles, and Im done!!!

Re: DIY: Radiator Flush & Coolant Change

I recently flushed my skoda rapid radiator and the mechanic added blue coolant instead of pink when I asked him he replied that its of same grade and has long life when compared to pink is it okay or should I stick with the pink coolant?

Mahindra coolant is a light pink in colour don’t add random coolants even if your car works well with them. Instead of flushing get the radiator removed and cleaned by a radiator mechanic.

VW group has some very specific coolants - was this a VW mechanic or any FNG? Check what is in your car manual and proceed accordingly. The coolant colour isn’t a reliable indicator, there are standards related to the coolant that will be printed on the bottle.
